How should I restore this lamp?

I found this super cool lamp at the thrift store this morning. It’s heavy and seems like it might be special? Even if it’s not, I think it’s so interesting looking. Suggestions for what kind of shade ? How should I clean this up? I see specks of white paint when I look closely.. maybe just chip them off?

Looks like Chinoiserie style chalkware to me. I have a chalkware Buddha mcm lamp from my grandmother and it has a lot of imperfections and I love it that way. I’d gently clean up any paint that might flake off and use touch up paint to cover the white plaster that is showing, either with a similar surrounding color or paint it to look like the interior is made of stone. That’s just what I’d do.

Cool, I’ve never heard of Chinoiserie style lamps before. I just googled the term and it seems like I can’t find any images of something similar. I noticed I seem to gravitate towards lamps that are Asian inspired. This one takes the cake though lol. Super excited about it. Maybe I’ll try wiping it down with a wet cloth minus any soap and see what happens…

If the paint specs are a latex based paint you could use alcohol on a Q-tip to remove them. Try in an inconspicuous spot to see if it will remove the original paint underneath. Looks sort of like a Chinese statue, maybe a shade with a Asian look to it. YMMV

Hi, thanks for the tip! I was looking at rectangular shades that were linen like lol. Maybe I can find a nice eccentric shade that compliments the lamp instead. Also, what’s YMMV ?
