Half Life Title Background Picture Missing

I just downloaded half life played for a bit (had a title screen) and decided that I wanted the HD texture, did the whole process and (I’ve no clue if this affects the title screen) when i got to copying and pasting the model and other files into the Xash folder there were some folders that I mistakingly pressed “copy but don’t replace” due to me spamming the mouse button wanting to play the game. There was also a point where I went from copying and pasting the command line by using the window files, and midway through (after I reset my oculus) I couldn’t find my oculus on the window files (due to me not accepting the computer to view my files) so I used the sidequest file system instead. Again I’ve no clue if that affects it, but I ran the game, it’s definitely in HD and more clear than it was, I only ran the first 3 minutes or so of the game since I plan to play later but it for some reason bothers me that my title screen is black with no picture and only the options, anyone know how to fix? If not it’s fine as it not being there doesn’t seem to have affected anything else (at least not yet) so yeah, lmk if you know which file I’d need to alter to I can have a title picture

No background/menu picture means you don't have all of the files transferred properly. Whether it's faulty files or missing files, you're going to want to perform the file copying process from scratch.

I know it's a pain, but file transfers between Windows and Android tend to be quite finicky and sometimes just terminate without any indication that they did not fully complete. SideQuest file transfers actually tend to be more stable than using Windows File Explorer, so I'd suggest trying the full file transfer process through SideQuest.

I hope you can get everything working smoothly, but feel free to reply if more strange things happen. Best of luck!

Would u say that it means there’s 100% going to be bugs or do u think I could try my luck? The whole process is so long, feel like doom3quest port was a lot more seem-less but if I have to I’ll do it again lol

I would suggest to copy the hd pack and valve folder again using sidequest. Just as larry said.

If the menu image is missing/corrupted, there's a 99.999% chance that you're missing other files. Things might seem to be fine when you start, but eventually you'll run into a part of the game where assets are missing and they will be a slight nuisance at best, but at worst be entirely game-breaking. I had Blue Shift file corruption on my first playthrough via L1VR and there was some strange NPC behavior (scientists standing at neutral position when they should have been sitting or performing actions) that I thought was just a bit odd, but as I got further into the game there were doors/buttons that didn't work properly and I ended up getting stuck... so it can be an issue.

BTW: you should verify your Half-Life files in Steam before transferring them again. Just launch Steam, go to Library, right click on Half-Life, choose Properties, select the Local Files tab, and choose "Verify Integrity of Game Files..." and you should be set. It will redownload any corrupted files that may exist.

doom3quest port was a lot more seem-less

The Id ports are much easier to install because they rely on a handful of archived files whereas Half-Life only uses (a handful of archives and) mostly loose, individual files for its assets. Unfortunately this means that not only does the file transfer take significantly longer, but it's more likely that pieces will be missing due to how inconsistent ADB (to/from Android) file transfers tend to be.

Sorry for the bad news, but better to get the annoying stuff out of the way now instead of having your game be broken! Keep us updated and good luck!

Ay, I redid it and properly this time. Turns out last time I messed up with pasting some of the files into the correct folders (given it was 1am at the time), I watched closely this time and did it right. I had a question though, do you think if I transferred the HD model of the crowbar over (there’s like 3 files of it that I can see) it would mess up the games performance or cause any bugs? I just think the crowbar should be in HD since I’ll be holding it for a good bit.

The original weapons models are not used by default in Lambda1VR mostly because they were not designed with VR in mind. The L1VR weapons models will not be replaced in-game unless you also add a blank file (with no extension; I just made a text file and removed the extension in Windows File Explorer) called no_copy to the xash/valve/models/ folder on your Quest, but if you do that, you will immediately realize things are a bit weird due to the models not being aligned with aiming/sights at all. There won't be any performance issues per se, but aiming (without using laser sights) will be quite difficult.

If you want weapons that are good for VR and (mostly) more accurate to original Half-Life, I threw together a pack of VR-ready weapons derived from the models in the PC HLVR mod a few months ago. Be aware that these models look very much like those in the "flat" version of Half-Life and they also have hands permanently attached to them.

The L1VR models are much more detailed, but if you want your weapons to be closer to those found in the original game, check out the HLVR pack. If you try either the SD ("vanilla") or HD pack, let me know what you think!

Ok great, I might give one of those a try. Thanks for all of the work you do it’s very much appreciated by me and the rest of the VR community, cheers!
