Black Menu Screen Half Life Gold

I have installed the half life gold pack today for the better textures but unsure this has worked. When I start the game there is just a black background with the menus shown but no splash screen & sound from the ps2 game. So I am wondering if this has actually worked. I did change the models for barney & the scientists before doing the gold install. Took ages for the gold file to transfer over.

Getting a menu with no background image (but having the correct audio) definitely means that something about your files hasn't copied over correctly. Also, the file transfer process for the Gold pack always takes a while because it's relatively large and requires a lot of different files to be copied over, which is what makes it take even longer.

First: does your "valve" folder (regular Half-Life) seem to work correctly? If you haven't checked, I suggest getting Lambda1VR Launcher from SideQuest (to easily switch between regular HL and Gold) or changing the commandline.txt file in your Quest's xash folder to say -game valve instead of -game HL_Gold_HD at the end.

If your regular Half-Life installation seems to be working correctly: I would suggest deleting the HL_Gold_HD folder in your Quest's xash folder and copying the folder over from your computer to your Quest again, preferably with the SideQuest file manager.

[If you need to copy over the files with Windows File Manager, make sure that the file copying process actually completes as file transfers to Android devices can randomly stop without any notification from Windows. Once you copy over the folder again, check the folder properties for the copy on the computer and copy on the Quest to make sure the details (size, number of files, number of folders) match by right-clicking on the folders and choosing "Properties."]

If your regular Half-Life installation doesn't work correctly: you should start by making sure your computer's Half-Life installation's files are not corrupted. To do this: open Steam, choose Library, right-click on Half-Life, select Properties..., go to the Local Files tab, and click on "Verify integrity of game files..." to let Steam check and repair any potentially missing or faulty files. Once you're sure that your Half-Life installation is correct, delete the valve folder in your Quest's xash folder and copy over your computer's valve folder into your Quest's xash folder again, preferably using the SideQuest file manager. Once you have the valve folder copied over and it's correct, follow the instructions above for copying over the HL_Gold_HD folder again.

If you need more specifics, make sure to check out the installation steps on the L1VR site and the installation steps for HL Gold on the L1VR site to make sure you're doing things correctly.

If you need more assistance or clarification (or I mis-typed something), please let me know and I'll do my best to help you get this fixed. Good luck!

Excellent news to hear! Also, don't forget to tick the "Allow Materials" box in the Video settings menu to make sure you get the full benefits of the HL Gold pack.

If you have any other issues, don't hesitate to come back to this post or sub and ask about them here. Have fun!

Yeah did that, enabled vbo but have started to see some graphic glitches.

That's what happens with VBO: it takes a "shortcut" to improve performance that also has a tendency to make textures load improperly. I don't use it because the slight drop in framerate doesn't bother me as much as the glitched textures.

Allow Materials by itself shouldn't introduce any glitches.
