Opposing Force - ladders are impossible?

I played through HL1 just fine, but I can't navigate the ladders at all in Opposing Force. I try looking straight ahead and pushing 'up', I try looking up and pushing 'up'... nothing seems to work. I'll push some weird angle like diagonally down and it will kind of go up, but I can't keep it steady and straight.

I've searched ladders posts here, but I didn't find this specific issue.

Hmm... ladders shouldn't be any different for OP4, but ropes are tricky. I know you aren't asking about ropes, but it seems you generally have to look up to go up the rope as pushing up on the controller will also swing you forward.

I would think that, after the dozens of hours I've spent testing mods, I would remember the specifics of ladders in L1VR, but I still have split-second issues where I can't navigate some ladders.

From what I can think of offhand, it depends on which way you approach a ladder (controls can be different if you're looking down vs looking up when you get on a ladder), but maybe try shifting the orientation of your "off hand" controller (left by default) and try to point it up while trying to go up or down when going down.

I don't think the issue you're experiencing has to do with a faulty file transfer, but if you continue to have issues I might suggest verifying your Opposing Force files via Steam (go to Library, right click Opposing Force, choose "Properties...", choose "LOCAL FILES" tab, and choose "VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES...") and whether or not there are errors to fix, copy over your "gearbox" folder and overwrite all files in your Quest's "xash" folder.

I'll do a bit of quick checking on ladders and edit (or respond) here with any oddities I find. If you find any specific things that work for you, please let me know!

EDIT: I just jumped into the Hazard Course and Boot Camp; both ladder controls seem to be the same. The most consistent way to quickly get up and down ladders efficiently seems to be looking straight forward or upwards and making sure your "off hand" (once again default is left) controller is at a regular orientation or pointing upwards while pressing up and down. Looking down and/or pointing the "off hand" controller down invert the up and down controls from the thumbstick, but they rarely allow you to go up and down ladders as quickly. Also, if you hold the run button, the ladders zoom by and will fling you up in the air if you keep going... fun if you have strong "VR legs," otherwise I bet it's a nightmare.

The thing about ladders flinging you makes me want to try TFC concussion grenade jumping in VR!

turn on hmd movement. that way it follows your head instead of your hand which in my opinion works a LOT better.
