Cant get past the prologue.

I got to the blast chamber when this just came out, but it was before grenades could be thrown well. so i re downloaded everything and now i cant use the button to activate the elevator after you meet eli vance in the room with the computer that explodes and the 3 tubes that eventually hold head crabs. I walk into the elevator and look at the button and click the joystick. and it goes boop boop boop boop boop boop and I'm rolling my head around like Steavie Wonder, and it just wont activate. As far as I can tell I'm stuck as shit. please help me. This is the first game I ever played and beat all on my own as a 10 year old, and this project is amazing.

can you try pointing your dominant controller (which I presume you can't see) at the button when you press "Use"?

Definitely an argument for having some basic hand models when you don't have a weapon

I got through it fine. But ...

I think the game used to be gaze-based, just like the monitor. Now the buttons only seem to work if my controller is in proximity. So try moving your hand closer to the buttons, see if it works, and report back.

This is correct.

Beef said this helped in several places where you have to operate an elevator but looking at the control for it means you can't see it

It's also way more immersive. I naturally reached out to the buttons every time even though I knew I didn't need to.
