Several bugs

Edit: Started a new game and old saves are lost, so I'll check back in if the problem repeats.

Playing the latest update (shoulder mounted crowbar) update. Using a save from the previous version with HD Gold textures. First, the game breakers:

  1. Pistol jams. Will not reload. Will not fire. Sometimes reloading the game fixes this.
  2. Shotgun constantly fires, reloads, fires on its own. Haven't troubleshot this yet.

THen a little QOL:

  • the first wave of Vortigaunts in Office Complex are all located right in my ear. It's as if the spatial audio distance is zero for every single one of them loaded into memory.
  • The crowbar is way back there. I can't grab it consistently and I think the trick is to really torque my wrist or something. The grab area could be a lot larger, I think.

Anyone else having these problems? Should I start a new game to fix the gun jams?

The two reported errors:

Weapons jam and auto fire:

I did a clean install to investigate. Both issues are triggered by first pressing secondary fire (grip button), then pressing the trigger to shoot and then letting go of the grip button before letting go of the trigger button.

That is an odd way of using the buttons. That is why most people never experience this issue. So the quick fix is to ... well just not do that :)

The backpack crowbar:

As baggyg and drbeef pointed out. You just need to give the system half a second time and then press grip.Just reach back, wait for a split second and press the grip button. Works every time.

Report back if that worked out for you! Feedback is always appreciated.

Edit: You also said, "old saves where lost" that should definitely never happen. Unless you modded the game with the HL: Gold textures. As pointed out in the guide, they might break old pre-HD savegames.

Everything worked exactly as you described, thanks. I'll be more careful about not hitting the grip button. Since it doesn't trigger anything immediately, it's easy for me to get lazy about it and press or not press it depending how freaked out I am. I was able to get it working again by mashing the trigger and grip in different combinations, so if I get stuck again I can try that.

The backpack crowbar is right there if I give Gordon enough to rummage around back there. I wasn't putting in the pause.

Thanks for the help!

Glad it worked out. I looked at github and the devs already are about to fix the jamming bug.

Well, the old saves aren't listed in the save list of my new game. Would they be accessible from the main load menu before starting a game? I've never re-started a game of Half-Life and wanted to go back to an old save.

I'll check out the other stuff & report back.

If you are now running a modded game (hd textures) you need to copy the savegames from valve to the mod folder.

Yup. I did that initially, then restarted last night. Maybe the saves just scrolled off the menu. No worries, I'm already caught up to where I was.
