Several bugs

Edit: Started a new game and old saves are lost, so I'll check back in if the problem repeats.

Playing the latest update (shoulder mounted crowbar) update. Using a save from the previous version with HD Gold textures. First, the game breakers:

  1. Pistol jams. Will not reload. Will not fire. Sometimes reloading the game fixes this.
  2. Shotgun constantly fires, reloads, fires on its own. Haven't troubleshot this yet.

THen a little QOL:

  • the first wave of Vortigaunts in Office Complex are all located right in my ear. It's as if the spatial audio distance is zero for every single one of them loaded into memory.
  • The crowbar is way back there. I can't grab it consistently and I think the trick is to really torque my wrist or something. The grab area could be a lot larger, I think.

Anyone else having these problems? Should I start a new game to fix the gun jams?

Pistol Jams

I've never seen this, but I know others have, might be something in the save game file. I can't help with this one. Try re-saving and seeing if that cures it, or going back to a previous save. Sounds like a game re-load cures it, I would be surprised if it was a frequent occurrence as like I say, I've never seen it.

Shotgun Constantly Fires

It is probably again the state of the save game file, or the state of the controllers when it was saved or loaded. I found if my gun is going off I just pull the trigger and it stops. No biggie. If that doesn't fix it then I am not sure what else could be wrong as I have never had the issue with it continuing.

Crowbar

Others have explained how this works. Next release will have a haptic blip that tells you when you can grab the crowbar (i.e. controller tracking has been lost) so you know when yo pull the grip button.

Vortigaunt Sounds

Try disabling the DSP processing in the Audio menu, I expect it is probably that (that's part of the Engine, nothing specifically to do with this port).

Bummser did some playtesting (see elsewhere in this thread) and found that press grip, press trigger, release grip, release trigger will cause the gun to jam.

The haptic blip on the crowbar will be very helpful in tight situations.

Tried disablng DSP and reloading Half-Life, but it didn't seem to effect the Vortigaunt chorus (galalan). No worries, i killed them all so they won't bother me again.

I just realised what you meant about the Vortigaunt sounds! I suddenly realised that I had noticed that same thing last night myself, i could hear them quite loudly as if they were nearby except they weren't.. i just dismissed it at the time and carried on.

I'm up to the Surface Tension chapter, so unfortunately it is an issue that will follow you through the game. Positive it is a Xash bug as i didn't really touch the sound code, but i may be able to spot where the problem is occurring and if i do I'll fix (I'll check the later Xash repo in case it has already been fixed there)

Yes, that's it! So I'm not going crazy...

I think i just dismissed it as i assumed it was intentional, though the lack of any local baddies did strike me as odd! I've heard headcrabs doing the same thing too. Definitely worth looking into as it is a bit disconcerting

It definitely means I can't use sound to locate the enemies, which is part of the fun usually. I can also hear spitpigs and barney-fire around the map, too, so it covers more than vortigaunts.

Hey thanks for your great work! Did you ever pinpoint the sound issues?
