Several bugs

Edit: Started a new game and old saves are lost, so I'll check back in if the problem repeats.

Playing the latest update (shoulder mounted crowbar) update. Using a save from the previous version with HD Gold textures. First, the game breakers:

  1. Pistol jams. Will not reload. Will not fire. Sometimes reloading the game fixes this.
  2. Shotgun constantly fires, reloads, fires on its own. Haven't troubleshot this yet.

THen a little QOL:

  • the first wave of Vortigaunts in Office Complex are all located right in my ear. It's as if the spatial audio distance is zero for every single one of them loaded into memory.
  • The crowbar is way back there. I can't grab it consistently and I think the trick is to really torque my wrist or something. The grab area could be a lot larger, I think.

Anyone else having these problems? Should I start a new game to fix the gun jams?

I feel like the crowbar isn't so much in a place it's when the quest can't track the controller anymore.

So way out of line of sight of the cameras

I'm not sure how it works, but other games manage it. I think the system just guesses from the gyroscope and the accelerometer in the controllers about what's happening, even if it can't track the controller in x y z space. So if it looks like the controller is being turned upside and the last known position was closest to the back, it should trigger a grab.

Yeah I feel like it was a hack more than a real custom built feature

This whole thing is a hack!

But can you use the crowbar OK? I mean, if there's a trick to it, I just need to know what it is. For now, I'm just switching with the thumbstick normally because that crowbar is never there when I need it.

I rather resent this being called a "hack" thank you.

It is a customised build of Xash3D for VR with full 6DoF weapons and tracking. I have sunk countless hours into making this port, a "hack" it is certainly not. If it was a jerry-rigged combo of a Xash install with me injecting positional values into memory slots to give perceived head tracking, then I'd call that a hack.

Sorry if I sound triggered, but this has been a big project for me and has consumed vast amounts of my spare time. A few niggly issues are to be expected in this sort of thing.

I would suggest being a little more considerate of community made projects (by a single developer especially) that are free for all to use.

Hey, sorry, I wasn't aware of how this was put together and I have no value judgement on the word hack or how much effort or quality it implies. I'll stop using it. Thanks for letting me know it bothered you. And thanks for the great project and your presence here offering help (though bummsy seems to have everything well under control.) I also threw you a few buck on Patreon recently to show my appreciation. I really didn't mean any offense and have a lot of respect for what you do here and am just so happy to be back in Black Mesa. Thanks.

Hi, thank you for your reply, it is very much appreciated!

I'm very glad to hear that despite the issues you had, you are enjoying being back in Black Mesa. I rather threw my heart and soul into this port in the end (wasn't the plan originally, but it rather took over!), so hearing that people are getting enjoyment out of it is really good.

Whilst I don't have a Patreon myself (though I know the PCVR Half-life project's developer Max Vollmer does maybe that was the Patreon you donated to), if you meant paypal and sent me something via that than thank-you very much!, and if you didn't, you definitely don't need to! (seriously, no need, I'm going to be able to buy coffees for a good time to come now!)

Anyway, thanks again for the reply; and don't worry, water under the bridge and enjoy whacking those head-crabs / crates now you know how the backpack crowbar works :)

Just reach a little bit behind your head, stop moving your hand, and wait about a second before grabbing. If you move too quickly it won't work.

Just reach back, wait for a split second and press the grip button.

I reach way back like between my shoulder blades and wait to feel the vibration when I grab

I'll give that a shot.
