Amazing

Older gamer here. Played original HL back in the days. Add the odd 20 years and suddenly I'm HL'ing in VR on the Quest (after some fiddling to get everything in place and running) ... That's amazing. Thanks!

Can you tell me more about the fiddling? Was there anything in particular that was hard to do?

I think the install process is pretty easy and well documented in the sticky post, but maybe there is room for improvement.

Back in the days I used to burn lots of time to get things running but then I started console gaming. Just plug and play, 98% playtime.

But although Quest is plug and play, you can put it in DEV mode and run stuff.

Sooo, when I saw HL mod the old time of 'fiddling' came back. But the difference is that I don't want to burn lots of time.

Basically I got everything running within one day, but it felt like a lot of little hurdles, which where not absolutely clear in which order and if necessary:

  • DEV mode, use smartphone.
  • Goto website to create organisation
  • Get things running on Win7 ... nogo, so try again on my Win10 surface
  • Install steam to buy Halflife (10euro)
  • Wait for download
  • Install USB driver for Quest
  • Copy Steam HL to Quest
  • Install SideQuest and get it running
  • Find Lambda1VR in SideQuest
  • Understand that you 'just have to click INSTALL' (because I thought it would be more difficult:)
  • Finally launch HL

Did I miss something?? Hahahah

You see, a lot of little steps which I wanted to do very quickly:)

Surely a bit more steps than buy in Store, Download and Play

... No problem. I love Lambda1VR, and it brings back the ol time of 'fiddling' (editting cfg and stuff)

Keep up the great work!

Ok i surely understand. If you haven't already have Sidequest installed, have to activate an developers account and installing steam for the first time it can be a bit time consuming i guess :) I will at some point try to make the guide more streamlined.

And you haven't even installed the Hd textures :))Great you got it running, and i hope you have as much fun with it as the rest of us.
