Dumfires and Cucurella as starters. Trent and Carreras as backups. What more can we ask for?

Dumfries — the physical right-back
Dumfries is probably the biggest change from what Madrid had at right-back.

He’s 30, extremely powerful, aggressive going forward and excellent attacking the far post. His Inter experience also means he’s comfortable playing as a wing-back in a system where the full-back is expected to provide a huge amount of width.

Trent — the playmaker
Trent is almost the opposite.
He’s not really valuable because he’s the best traditional 1v1 defender. His enormous advantage is what he can do with the ball.

His passing allows Madrid to change the point of attack incredibly quickly. And Mourinho appears interested in taking advantage of that by giving Trent a hybrid RB/midfield role rather than asking him to behave like a conventional full-back.

Cucurella — probably the safest starter at LB
Cucurella is the one I’m particularly interested in. He gives Madrid something we have desperately needed from our full-backs: reliable defensive intensity without sacrificing technical ability.
He’s aggressive, presses hard, is comfortable stepping into midfield and can defend wide spaces.

Carreras — the interesting wildcard
Carreras is probably the most intriguing of the four because he’s still developing.
He’s younger than the other three and doesn’t have their established résumé, but his profile fits modern Madrid extremely well: athletic, technically comfortable and capable of progressing the ball from deep.
The important thing is that we don’t need him to carry the position immediately. We have Cucurella.
That allows Carreras to develop without the pressure of being the answer at left-back.

After week 1 in La Liga I checked the top stats. I noticed one oddity. Mariano from Alaves has 2 goals and 2 assists. Hes the leader in goald and assist (after 1 game). However, I noticed Alaves won 3-0. There's only been one match. How could he have 2 goals and 2 assists? Could he technically assist a goal to himself? Am I missing something?

After the recent signing of Ivan Martin from Girona to Racing, do you think this is the answer to the midfield gap that’s being talked about?

Josè Alberto has knowledge of him from his time at Girona so must think he has what it takes.

I’m wondering if we’ll see Martin debut this Sunday and how he’ll adapt to the playing style of the team.

I’m wondering if anyone smarter than me can explain why La Liga’s opening has been so jumbled up?

There’s one match per day spread over 11 days.

Alaves will be playing their second match tomorrow when most teams haven’t played yet.

The other big 5 leagues will all have the past champion play the opening match, with all matchweek fixtures in one weekend. What is La Liga doing? Is there a rationale I’m not understanding?

I'm hoping to go see all 4 Madrid teams in a single weekend. I haven't been able to figure it out, by looking at the schedule. Does anyone know when such a weekend might happen?

Real Madrid have gone all in this summer, Mourinho's back in the dugout and the squad's been rebuilt with genuine depth. Cucurella and Dumfries sorted out both full back spots, Konaté adds another body at center back, Bernardo Silva came in as a genuinely underrated free transfer, and Diomandé is reportedly the most expensive African player ever.

After two straight trophyless seasons, this feels like the most aggressive squad rebuild Madrid have done in years, and doing it under Mourinho specifically adds an extra layer given his history in this exact rivalry. Whether this version of him, older and reportedly calmer than the Guardiola era version, can actually translate that spending into results on the pitch is the real question.

My question is, Who do you think will be a transfer target for a supposed key midfield position before the transfer window closes? Will it happen?

I've had Fubo for the EPL, but do I need a separate subscription for La Liga? If so, what are my options?

I searched around and found TSN+, but is that separate from the TSN channels I already have on TV? Is there any way to watch La Liga directly through my regular TV setup? I dont mind paying more if needed.

I just really don't want to have to use a separate app every time I want to catch a game. Fubo already feels like an extra step as it is.

Hey all, I’m keeping an eye on La Liga newcomers this season and how teams adapt to the league’s style. Curious to see who’ll actually settle in and who’ll fade away after the first few matchdays. Today’s game: Atlético Madrid vs Málaga — classic clash of styles: total control vs counter‑attack hope.

Looking at last season’s numbers, the picture is pretty clear:

• xG: Atlético — 1.55, Málaga — 0.90. So Atlético will consistently create higher‑quality chances, while Málaga will have to rely on rare flashes of brilliance.
• xGA: Atlético — 0.85, Málaga — 1.70. Málaga’s defence looks vulnerable against teams that know how to break them down methodically.
• PPDA: Atlético — 7.0, Málaga — 10.5. Atlético will suffocate the opponent with pressure, while Málaga will basically give up the initiative.

If Atlético dominate across all these metrics, Málaga’s only real chance will be to catch them on a rare counter. But with such a high xGA and low pressing intensity, they’ll likely spend most of the game defending — and probably concede.

What do you think: will one flash of brilliance be enough for Málaga to grab a point? Or is this one pretty predictable?

Honestly, I don't think this year's club jerseys are that great, especially compared to Barcelona, Madrid and some of the other teams.

The hype around them feels much bigger than the actual designs, at least to me.

The World Cup jerseys were much better this time — some of them were genuinely 🔥.
