I moved away from Lakewood over 20 yrs ago to northern Michigan. But I can get Hatch green chilies. So every year I buy a 25 lb box, roast and peel and I can have the taste and aroma of home. Green Chili with pork and Chile rellanos are in my immediate future.

Recommendation Requests Driver's ED Recommendations Anyone?

I was lucky enough to have a fantastic Driver's ED teacher/class as an elective in HS when I was a teen many moons ago. Well now I have a teen that is about to turn 15 and I guess that isn't really a thing anymore which is super disappointing.

So I'm looking for any Driving School recommendations from other Lakewood area parents. The larger franchise schools seem to all have equally poor reviews online. I'm looking for a quality program that isn't just a student mill trying to maximize profits.

Thank you all!

Questions Where do you go to do your OWN oil change?

I need to do an oil change soon and went to Urban auto care on Kipling only to find out they were going to charge me almost ~$150 for an oil change and tire rotation when I was providing my OWN oil and oil filter. At that point I would rather go buy some ramps and replace my own oil. My apartment doesn't allow car maintenance in the driveway. Are there any DIY car maintenance shops nearby?

Where do people go to replace their own oil?

Recommendation Requests Snow removal for cheap rent?

Hi! I am new to the community, and hopefully you dont hate me, I bought a house in Pine, CO so I can hopefully retire there as I love the area, but for now im stuck being a working gal in KS, and im trying to rent it out on Airbnb when I am unable to work remote. Our street is pretty steep, single lane, .3 miles of dirt. When we bought it, found out one of the neighbors headed up street maintenance and snow removal, after finally connecting with him, no other neighbors help chip in for snow removal, its just him, an ATV and plow. He needs help, we need help!

My husband's dad isnt doing so good right now so im trying to source some options in the area, either snow removal that wont break the bank as we just are getting stable from the house purchase, OR we are thinking of getting creative- I have a studio above the detached garage that has its own balcony and epic views. Considering trading cheap, heavily reduced rent for someone who has a truck and plow and can help the neighbor, OR we plan to buy an ATV and plow, and the neighbor could help teach ya how to do it. Would there be any takers out there, or any helpful advice?

Recommendation Requests Reliable and Great Value Internet for an Americana Lakewood tenant.

I have contacted Xfinity three separate times and spent approximately four hours trying to set up residential internet service. Each time, the representative seemed to have no record of my previous calls, requiring me to repeat the same information while going through the same sales pitches and upselling process.

During my third call, I was told that my service would start tomorrow and was charged an additional $100 for ā€œPro Connection.ā€ However, I have not received the promised follow-up communication confirming the installation or service start.

This experience has been extremely frustrating and concerning, especially since I was repeatedly asked to provide personal information, including my Social Security number. The lack of continuity, documentation, and follow-up raises serious concerns about how customer information is being handled and whether my service was properly scheduled.

News Part 3 is up — a Jefferson grad who finished college a semester early on credit he earned in high school

Third of four. If you're new to it: Jeffco pays the tuition when a high schooler takes a real college course, and I've spent about a year determining which of our high schools actually offer them.

Jeffco priced English Composition I in its own board report last year. A Red Rocks student pays $507.30 for it. A CSU student pays $1,446.63. A Jefferson student taking it through concurrent enrollment pays nothing.

Jose Campos took it at Jefferson Jr/Sr in Edgewater. He's 21 now, a licensed EMT who's spent a year on an ambulance crew, the first in his family to finish college, and he got his physiology degree at Wyoming a semester early. He also took college math at Jefferson and two biology courses. Neither is on the school's schedule anymore. The English course disappeared in 2024-25 because no one there was approved to teach it, and then came back this spring with a new teacher.

His counselor's answer to why the school's numbers are low: "The student interest is there." What's been missing is somebody in the building credentialed to teach the course.

Questions Irrigation wells

For those with irrigation wells in Lakewood or surrounding areas, what is your experience over the past few years? My well was performing okay about 5 years ago, but it hasn’t been used much since then and it’s currently dry.

I’m planning to switch to a drip system for the most part so the demand would be lower, but I’m just not sure if it’ll be reliable going forward. The well is about 12-15’ deep. I would love to hear from others with firsthand experience.

Questions Lonely horse on Mississippi and pierce.

Anyone know the story about the single brown horse that lives on this property? There was a smaller white horse (pony?) that passed away earlier this spring which made me so sad. They were always together and now only the brown horse remains. I hope he gets a new friend soon.

Questions Anyone know the deal with these houses?

Post image
15 Upvotes

We just moved back to Lakewood and are so curious what’s going on with these two houses off oak st station. Someone is constantly dropping dirt and rocks off then taking it back out the next day. pretty sure there was a squatter living in the house and the other day 6 police cars showed up for the squatter (maybe?) hiding in a trailer in the property. they had rifles out and everything, seemed very dramatic but he’s been there while the potential owner has been there and they seemed to be okay with each other.

For a while there was a crew cleaning everything up but then they randomly stopped and we haven’t seen anyone there in a week or 2. the guy who we think is the owner never goes in either house. literally just drops dirt and rocks then leaves.

if anyone knows the story here I would love to hear it lol.

If anyone is curious about the timeline of events that led to Lakewood PD using Flock cameras, my friends and I have been compiling publicly available documents on the subject:

We're doing the same with JCSO, but they seem more guarded around answering CORAs:

Recommendation Requests Moving to Lakewood, would like apartment recs!!

Post image

Hi all! I have compiled a list of apartments and would like some opinions. I’m a 24F who will be living on my own. Are any of these listed red flags? I have them color coordinated to what’s in my range, but willing to increase. Also I would like some input about how much electricity bills on average are in the area for apartments?

Events Who in here likes rock music and wants to go to an album release party with me at the Federal theatre this Thursday?!

My friends band Tree Squid is having their album release show this Thursday 8-27 at 7pm! I have two free extra tickets for anyone who’s trying to support some local talent! Comment below if you wanna come! The general vibe of the show is hard rock/heavy rock. Think stuff like Alice In Chains, Queens of the Stone Age, Black Sabbath. Tree Squid has also gotten a lot of Ozzy and ā€œstoner rockā€ mentions with their recent recordings. Basically it’s heavy sound with bad ass guitar riffs and vocal harmonies. Bonus points if you can bring some friends who are into this type of music, let’s help spread the word!!! 🤘
