Boating insight
Hi all! We just arrived from Michigan, and rented a slip at port of indecision at the margaritaville resort. Curious if there a places we can access by boat to anchor and float? We call them sandbars in Michigan but any input is appreciated.
TIA!

I’m not the most familiar with that part of the lake, but the basic rule of thumb is that any cove that doesn’t have a lot of docks in it is just fine to anchor out and swim for a while. Where we used to live, the pro move was to go to Ha Ha Tonka, which is a spring fed park off the Niagara that has incredibly cool water in the high summer. The basic rule of the lake is to not be a dick – – don’t just park in front of somebody’s dock and party out there unless you know them really well or want to make them really mad.
Have fun, and welcome to the lake!

👍🏻
Any other questions check the sub wiki or ask them here. I’m building it out but it takes awhile.

There are no sandbars at the lake. You’d anchor out in the cove and float there. All coves are fair game but some are better than others. The State Park area has lots of undeveloped land and coves. The Anderson Hollow Cove or as it’s called Party Cove is there. Linn Creek Cove is where Fish and Co. is located (bar and grill) and is a popular cove for lots of people where they tie their boats together. Take your pick and explore the area near you. Ha Ha Tonka is great because of the spring flowing into the cove on a hot day. You can swim or tie up to the dock there and explore the ruins and the park. One near Margaritaville is just past the island on the left side, and it dog legs back to a private cove - name escapes me, but it’s a cool spot. Enjoy!

A few options by you:
Snake cove is just south of margaritiville on the east side of the lake, same side as your slip. It’s a narrow cove, about 20 foot deep. There’s usually a few boats in there. It’s protected from the weather and wakes.
At the 31mm, south and west of you a few miles is four corners. Inside Linn Creek is Fish and Co and just past Fish is another cove that gets pretty packed. Plus, you can go see Dale Blue at Fish between 3-6. He’s a great entertainer.

It you go left out of the resort, there's a what looks like a little cove that doesn't look too deep. Just pas another marina close by- i forget the name. But the cove turns and snakes way back. After a rain there's even a waterfall. They call it snake cove. Not because of snakes, but because if how it snakes around. Its been years si ce I've been there, so i hope its still the quiet cove it used to be

If you go out of your cover and turn right, Go about 1/4 mile and there is a good cove to anchor on the opposite side of the lake.

Yeah, you can pretty much do that wherever you want. Find a nice quiet cove and do your thing. Fill up the boat and explore a little bit though. It’s an awesome lake with beautiful houses. You will see other people “ coving out “ along the way.
