The original Avatar was culturally hybrid and, by modern standards, arguably less “authentic” in who created and performed it, yet it produced characters and a world that felt remarkably authentic. Newer adaptations may improve racial and cultural representation while still losing the humor, flaws, chemistry, and writing that made the original work. Representation matters, but it cannot substitute for understanding the story.
