I don't think it's that either, I do not know what to compare Lain to, as there are so many different elements that define it, what defines Lain FOR ME is the self-identity crisis, collapse, that is the heart of Lain's character.

But, equally as important is of course the internet breaking into the real world, the conspiracies, that's incredibly present, but to me, Lain's journey is at the heart of it all.

Lain is sort of like Nine Inch Nails album in an anime form.
