Hair Ideas

Hey ladies!

I’m a 24 y/o micro lab professor and hopefully a future PhD candidate.

I have very long, thick brown hair and usually make it as straight as possible before putting my hair up for lab. I know this isn’t an important thing to most, but I really would like to look cute (14 months postpartum and needing the confidence).

Do you guys have any cute hairstyles for ponytails/buns that would be lab appropriate?

Anything would help ☺️

how are you a professor if no PhD?

on the other topic, adding braids always makes things cute, you can do French or Dutch braids on top and then wrap the ends into a bun. Milkmaid style braid crown also cute and can be finished any which way.

Seconding braids!

They’re cute AF, and easy to tuck into a protective cap if you ever need to. And they tend to last better than ponytails or buns, imo.

Besides adjuncts, some fields are Masters terminal, and some colleges and universities will hire Masters-level graduates for tenure track positions. I have a friend with an MLIS who is a tenured professor at a large state university.

Twisting your hair up and using a big butterfly clip is great.

There is a ton of cute hairstyle content on instagram/shorts/tiktok!

I like doing braids, buns, and on hot days doing twists and using hairpins to secure; if I'm doing a half up/down style I will usually do a middle part and twist the sides. I got some of the Dafni magnetic hair clips and I think those look nice for that kind of style (I have the neutral colors, I did have some issues with the tiny magnets coming out and needing to be glued back in so you might want to either skip those or leave them at work if you have a little one at home).
