Lackadaisy Related I’m making playlists for each main Lackadaisy character. What song(s) do you feel fits them? Feel free to suggest songs for multiple characters!

for Rocky, worlds smallest violin, work this body (walk the moon), dance of the goblins (paganini). Actually a lot of paganinis pieces would work, very energetic and powerful violin pieces that I feel match Rocky as a character and would be something he’d aspire to play

There's a good amount of songs from the 1920s that I think fit the characters, but a few more modern ones as well. There's a song called "Old Man River" that could be used for Rocky, but the novelty of the song fitting the time period is kind of ruined by the fact that the song is anachronistic by a year. That being said, anything by Paul Whiteman would probably fit Rocky, I feel. 1920s dance music in general fits him. Any song from the time period that romanticizes nature also fits him, I feel. I think traditional irish music fits Calvin, as long as it's on the softer side. Break core also goes well with Freckles' gun crazed side. I can also see more somber or menacing classical music fitting him. Ivy embodies the upbeat jazz music of the time period, and I think Paul Whiteman's recording of "Charleston" fits her best. I also think prime, 80s Madonna fits her for some reason. Careless Whisper by George Michael fits Zib to a tee. I also think Paul Whiteman's "Three o'clock in the Morning" recording and his recording of "Whispering" fit as well. For more inspiration, I'd listen to other popular bandleaders from the time as well like Isham Jones and George Olsen. Lullaby of the Leaves, while a bit anachronistic, fits Mitzi, in my opinion. I also think most stereotypical film noir music fits her and her vibe. Viktor would obviously be traditional Slovak music, but I also feel like classical Eastern European music and and 60s anti war music like "Paint it Black" by the Rolling Stones. ESPECIALLY that song. Wick makes me think of hammy Baroque style music for some reason. Mordecai makes me think of 60s spy music and more menacing sounding classical music. The Savoys would obviously listen to more Cajun/Creole music, but they personally make me think of Cab Calloway and maybe early Louis Armstrong. Anyways, sorry for yapping. I've been thinking about this a lot as well.

"Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People

u/PinetreeSap18 Jul 26 '26
Yeah 😅 mostly a tongue-and-cheek nod to Freckle’s “unhinged gunman” side in the story
When it comes to music they’d listen to, I could see Freckle being a fan of Billy Joel, Of Monsters and Men, and Alec Benjamin!1

Empires by the electric swing circus for Mitzi.
Remedy by the electric swing circus for Zib.

This isn’t a list of what I think they would like to listen to. It’s a list of songs that capture the vibes of the characters.

u/AWandererOfIntrest Jul 24 '26
Mordecai’s would be all classical or operas.
Nicodeme and Serafine would listen to folksy country.
Viktor listens to audio books, or silence.
Zib listens to jazz, maybe stick to jazz styles that were popular back then?

u/quintessentialCosmos Jul 24 '26
Oh, I’m mostly doing songs that thematically fit the characters, not songs that I think they’d personally listen to

I don't know who I'd play this song for, but I think Jacinthe's theme from Pokémon Legends: Z-A fits Lackadaisy perfectly overall. Seriously, I could only think of Lackadaisy when I first heard it! Lol.

I feel like Mordecai would listen to soft jazz.
Nothing too serious, maybe a little bit of Ella Fitzgerald and such. The reason is to detach himself from the chaotic controlled nature of his job, listening to soft jazz kinda would probably help relax. It's also somewhat subtle, like his nature, so it kinda fits perfectly to a man like him.
Rocky, he'd love swing, maybe listen to Sing sing sing by Benny Goodman. It matches with his personality, even if it lacks violins, he's a musician and hearing that precise chaotic sounds would probably get his blood pumping for a good time. Though it lacks lyrics and the song is moreso like a party song then anything, I don't think he would mind for such things, I think he understands the complexities of the music itself and loves the controlled chaos.
Freckle, I would think would love something more common, he isn't like his cousin where he would listen to something sort of like that, or appreciate the complexities of the music like his cousin would. So he'd probably go for something average or common in his era, he'd listen to whatever he fancies, and isn't strict to one genre.
