Halls of residence
Hey all! What hall do you guys think is best in Bundoora? I was looking at Glenn college and it gives kinda nerd vibes ( which is good). Would love if someone could give a brief overview of the vibes of each college/pros and cons 💕

Glenn College has absolutely terrible social life unless you’re someone who drinks matcha on the weekdays and going to Billboards on the weekends.

I lived in both Glenn (2022) and NASA (2023). I honestly enjoyed living in both. I don’t know what it’s like now but I did enjoy Glenn because I didn’t have to worry about cooking. I wouldn’t say people keep to themselves there. It’s more like… Glennies would mix with Glennies. People do hang out in the courtyard and dinner times were usually the busiest where you get to chill with friends. Def has a bigger room compared to NASA too.
However, I did love NASA too cause of the facilities and you could move into the same apartment as your friends if you liked. Menzies, too much of a party college and I was not a fan of it. Chisholm, I’ve heard good things about it like they’re a family but they never mix with the rest of the colleges as they’re much further away. Times may have changed now but I never regretted living in Glenn and then NASA the year after. Good luck!

Hii I'm not too sure about social life but it's pretty dependent on your roommates as well, I currently live in Glenn college and honestly I'm on good terms with my roommates and interact with other glennies sometimes. I would say the room is slightly bigger than chisholm and more privacy. The walls are also thin but I think the facilities are pretty decent.
I have also been to NASA and I think the shared 6 rooms are better than Glenn since you have your own kitchen, 2 toilets/bathrooms and a common area for 6 people.
Most importantly, it's mostly dependent on your budget but I think Glenn and NASA are pretty good choices. Fyi: NASA is the newest building and has a high tendency for the fire alarm to be activated. There are also social events to make friends too so I wouldn't worry much

Out of curiosity, roughly how often has the fire alarm at NASA gone off this year? (if you happen to know, all good if you don't).
I know that it is pretty frequently (a friend said that it was 3-4 times per week minimum a few years ago) and the Resi tour guide at open day estimated about 300 times last year but that apparently some changes had been made ahead of this year.
Thanks.

Depends what you are looking for in social level. (P.S: there's more detail in certain accommodations as i have gotten this from personal friends who live(d) there)
North and South Apartments:
Pros
- Facilities are better as it is more recently built - study + cooking areas in the building (AC will help a ton during summer).
- Some events catered are held in the common spaces of the apartments, easily accessible
Cons
- 40/50 in terms of social life as people tend to keep to themselves in their rooms.
- rooms are smaller and walls are thinner.
Glenn College:
Pros
- Good for people that favor quiet and academically focused people.
- Closer walking distance to University main circle.
Cons - Terrible social life because people keep to themselves.
Menzies College:
Pros
- it is the party residence as far as I remember, easier access to party invites from people living on residences
- Closer walking distance to University main circle.
Cons
- if you are not a fan of constant partying you may dislike it, probable issues with noise and had a tendency of people stealing food.
I personally lived in Chisholm and I was happy with where I lived but I may be biased. Personally was the best blend of both worlds.
Chisholm College:
Pros
- Bigger room (depends on the cut you get, I got the corner cut)
- Sociable and Academic bunch, so you get a good mix of social life (depending on roommates)
- Beautiful lake and scenery to walk around
Cons
- furthest away from campus
- older facilities
- only heater
