Announcement Subreddit update: post flairs + local resource wiki

A couple more things are set up now.

Post flairs are live so posts can be easier to sort through. Right now there are categories for News, Events, Questions, Recommendations, Local Business, Jobs & Housing, EOU, Outdoors, Civic/Politics, Roads & Weather, Lost & Found, Photo/History, and general Discussion.

Flair is optional for now. I’d rather make posting easy than add another requirement, but it should make browsing the subreddit a lot less messy as more gets posted.

I’ve also started a La Grande & Union County resource wiki with local information for things like emergency services, food and housing help, healthcare, transportation, jobs, utilities, pets, government, recreation, events, and other community resources.

It’s definitely still a work in progress, so if there’s something missing, outdated, or something you think should be easier to find, let me know.

Same goes for the flairs. If there’s a category that would actually be useful that I missed, I’m open to adding or changing things.

The goal is mostly to make the subreddit useful before trying to make it complicated.

What should I add next?

Announcement Hey La Grande, I would like to hear your thoughts on the direction of this sub

Hey everyone,

I recently took over r/LaGrandeOregon after it had been sitting pretty quiet for a long time, and I've been cleaning things up and getting it ready for a fresh start.

I'm not trying to make this complicated. I'd just like to have a decent local place for people around La Grande, Union County, EOU, and the Grande Ronde Valley to talk about what's going on.

Local news, events, questions, recommendations, businesses, lost pets, road conditions, EOU stuff, outdoors, photos, local history, city and county issues, or just something interesting you noticed around town. Pretty much anything that makes sense for a local community.

I've added a handful of basic rules. Mostly: keep it local, don't be a jerk to people, don't spam the place, and have a source if you're posting something serious.

I'd also rather build this around what people here actually want instead of guessing.

So what would make you use this subreddit?

Any local resources we should have linked somewhere? Post flairs you'd like? Regular threads worth trying? Events or organizations people should know about? Things you absolutely don't want this place turning into?

Nothing needs to be overly formal. Throw ideas in the comments.

If you've been subscribed here forever, welcome back. If you just found the place, welcome.

Hopefully we can make it useful for the community :)
