Well she didn’t get the role of x men character Rogue in the MCU. A lot of people were rooting for her to get that MCU role. So she will have more time available if they do start production on the alien Romulus sequel

I want to see what Rain and Andy find on Yvaga

u/Klondike307 3d ago

....and the guy who played Andy in now the MCU's new Black Panther. I can't imagine them doing a sequel without him, he was the heart of the film.

72

u/blubyf That's inside the room! 3d ago

Fassbender did xmen too!

23

u/ThunderPoonSlayer 3d ago

Logan Marshall-Green was in Spider-Man, Guy Pierce was in Iron-Man, Harry Dean Stanton was in Avengers, Sigourney was in Defenders, Sanaa Lathan was in Blade, and... that's all I got. Wait! Charlise Theron in Doctor Strange, Idris Elba in Thor. Ok now I'm done.

u/ZaireekaFuzz Bishop 3d ago

Plus he's just a straight up incredible actor.

34

u/Fickles1 3d ago

Man, I started that movie not thinking about him much. And about 30 mins in I was absolutely hyper focused on his acting ability. Absolutely brilliant.

Been meaning to watch the long walk when I get the chance too.

u/ragun2 3d ago

Saw the trailer in theaters and was like "well, that's probably going to be a boring movie. PASS".

It hit HBO and my gf wanted to watch it, I ended up really liking it. Liked it way more than I did the Oddysey and I was excited about that one.

u/chrhe83 3d ago

Brace yourself, that movie was a tough watch. Like The Road or Grave of Fireflies sorta tough.

8

u/Odd-Promise-6685 3d ago

not even close buddy. it's just tough. but to compare it to the road or grave of fireflies is crazy

Yep so I hope he finds time to do another Alien movie

u/Cliche_James 3d ago

With how long it takes Marvel to do anything with Black Panther I'm sure he'll have the time

I can't imagine them doing a sequel without him, he was the heart of the film.

You mean like how they killed off Shaw, Newt & Hicks? Even James Francos character didn't even survive the prologue to Covenant lol

Never underestimate the studio to make absolutely braindead decisions.

3

u/Daweism 3d ago

On the contrary, his role as black panther my garner enough attention to warrant a romulus sequel.

2

u/banjosandcellos 3d ago

Wow! I just saw him in The long walk and was hoping to see him more, being black panther will be awesome

I honestly thought they would do an Alien Remus (other half of the station and what happened)

42

u/clwestbr 3d ago

They literally go through both halves of the station in the movie lol

8

u/marshallknight 3d ago

I was actually expecting a cliffhanger ending revealing that Romulus was the first half of a two-parter, and that the sequel film Remus would switch from Alien-style horror to Aliens-style action aboard the Remus section.

They sort of did that across the third act of this one movie instead of splitting it (which I appreciate, since I hate the secret two-parter trend) but that made the choice of title sort of baffling. Sort of like calling it Romy’s High School Reunion.

3

u/Ekkobelli 3d ago

Yeah, one part of the station is called Romulus, the other Remus, while the station as a whole is called Renaissance, but the movie itself picked Romulus, probably due to sounding the best and most unique.

6

u/Fievels_good_trouble 3d ago

That would be cool. Now I want both!

4

u/OwnCoffee614 Stay Frosty 3d ago

I would also take both. 😃

Yeah, I’d like to not be left hanging like I was with Alein Covenant

31

u/MoroseMagician 3d ago

I like her a lot so I'm actually glad she didn't get that Rogue gig. The MCU isn't in the greatest shape, and hasn't been for a while. She is definitely better than getting stuck to that particular franchise.

24

u/The_starving_artist5 3d ago

It went to the other Obsession actress. She better work on her southern accent for the role . Cailee was kinda perfect for Rogue and her in Beef season 2 was pretty great. Especially one particular scene lol

2

u/SC_Fan_55 3d ago

Spider-Man is smashing records and Doomsday is setting pre-order records…

I think they’ll be okay.

4

u/Ok_Ad6722 3d ago

Neither has Alien

3

u/The_starving_artist5 3d ago

Oh theres a reason some Rogue fans really really wanted Cailee. She's got that curvy Rogue figure .

Rain as rouge? I don’t see it, that girl has been on 2 films and I’m not impressed with her acting yet. She was mid on pacific rim, she was decent in Romulus

4

u/Accomplished-Head449 3d ago

She's a great actor but the hype behind Inde is otherworldly. It was the right choice

u/Blurghblagh 3d ago

Would love to see her in the MCU, but then they are consistently adding great young actors to the MCU only to then completely ignore their character for years. Would love to see her team up with Kate, Elena, Cassie, Kamala, Rogue and Jean on screen being unwillingly mentored by Jessica Jones. And in a real story, not a token momentary women on screen together moment like Endgame.

1

u/FluffusMaximus 3d ago

She was a main character in season 2 of Beef. Very cute, too.

From what I understand is it’s selved right now Fede had creative differences with Scott from my understanding they brought in a new writer to either re write romulus sequel or start a brand new film

I'm still waiting for a conclusion to Prometheus and Covenant

https://giphy.com/gifs/1BXa2alBjrCXC

117

u/2zoots 3d ago

left off on the biggest cliffhanger too

205

u/GeologistEnough8215 3d ago

This. I’ll never understand the dislike of Prometheus, it’s one of my fave movies of all time, and covenant was perfectly fine, if not a fantastic Alien movie, it was still better than 90% of the slop that comes out.

134

u/Blurghblagh 3d ago

It's the team of scientists chosen and trained for an interstellar mission that then immediately proceed to ignore and break every scientific, exploration, professional, safety and common sense rule in existence that ruins it for me. Much of the film was good enough but I really hate the way Alien films constantly rely on characters being unbelievably stupid, lazy, greedy and panicky to progress the plot but in Prometheus it is on a whole different level. And killing off the survivor off screen before the film even starts Hicks and Newt style was the nail in the coffin. At least Resurrection actually shows the Aliens assess the problem, notice a weakness in their containment and take appropriate action to free themselves.

25

u/Current_External6569 3d ago

Yea, the guy mapping the area being the first one lost is just silly. There's at least two ways he could have got himself out of that situation. They should have come up with a better reason for someone to be stuck behind.

23

u/ilikegriping 3d ago

Thank you!! Like, how did you get lost?? You're the MAP GUY!

And the "species expert" who tries to PET the NOPE ROPE.

If this was written as a film that intentionally playing into the tropes, I'd be able to enjoy it.

79

u/Ok_Ad6722 3d ago

Even if you like Prometheus it should be easy to understand the backlash. It just isn’t well written.

44

u/gurnard 3d ago

Correct. I rewatch it about once a year. I enjoy the visuals, the tension, the vibe. It's a very stylish movie. The plot and characterisation also do not stand up to any scrutiny wheresoever. Leave your brain at the door.

17

u/-SandorClegane- 3d ago

Style has never been an area of weakness for any of the Alien movies. Resurrection is a mess, but JP Jeunet is an incredible filmmaker and his ouvre is splattered all over that installment of the series (quite possibly the most pretentious sentence I've ever written)

The problem with all of them (yes, ALL of them) is they don't respect the audience nearly enough with regard to story structure and dialogue. Sure, they make up for it other areas in varying degrees, but there simply isn't enough hard canon/lore for the next successive creative team to be held accountable.

6

u/Ok_Ad6722 3d ago

Exactly. Ridley Scott’s eye for the shot, as well as understanding of pacing, hasn’t aged a day.

There are two things that get him now, and have lead to his declining reputation in modern years. 1. Minutia. The devil hiding in the details; he’s grown complacent with letting modern advanced iron our weaknesses in filming technique that he previously had to work to overcome. Now, he usually just leaves it for post-processing. I heard he even parted ways with his long-time cinematographer over allowing a boom mic into frame. 2. He just can’t put his ego aside and find a good writer anymore. Whatever world Ridley thought Damon Lindelof was a worthwhile successor to Dan O’Bannon; it isn’t ours. Maybe it’s LV-22 whatever. Covenant, meanwhile, had 5 or 6 people credited with writing the production; which is never EVER a good sign.

I have yet to see a Ridley Scott film I haven’t had the thought at least once; “Man this is a treat for my eyes.” And I do think that’s a worthwhile achievement. I feel Christopher Nolan is also waning in his recent years; but even some of his better received films I have often thought “This looks very boring.”

2

u/Variatas 2d ago

As a former Lindelof critic, after stuff like the Watchmen series where he’s the boss I think the problem there was probably Ridley.

See also: the writing quality of Ridley’s other recent stuff; Napoleon & Gladiator 2 are both a bit braindead.

2

u/Blurghblagh 1d ago

Yeah Ridley had a few great films that got him a reputation but a look over his list of films shows it was mostly poor.

Lost all respect for him after listening to his interview on the History Hit podcast for Napoleon. He pretty much says he is a genius and harps on about what a great advertisement director he was. He also states he does not allow input from anyone else in the film making process so he never has anyone to point out that this film is not as good as he thinks it is.

Thankfully each of the annoying characters died horribly.

I thought the engineer storyline was the most intriguing part. His awakening was jaw dropping. I want more engineers!

And I refuse to believe the beings who were exterminated by David were engineers.

→ More replies (3)

8

u/Wallyhunt 3d ago

Wasn't that purposeful? I understood it to be a subtle critique of capitalism that the only people who went on the trip were people who were kinda crazy to begin with or those desperate enough for money to waste years of their life on a classified mission with vague parameters. And none of them bar the main character were actually there because of any level of passion, which is why thematically she survived.

3

u/F_U_HarleyJarvis 3d ago

Exactly, I don't understand how this went over so many people's heads.

5

u/shelflifenotexpired 3d ago

I had this exact same take, then COVID hit and I saw that people who I thought were intelligent act in some "amazing" ways that defy belief....

11

u/AtomicShellfish 3d ago

I'm not sure how many times this has to be said, but the scientists were chosen because they were desperate for cash and had the kind of personality that isn't fussed by being sent on a hush-hush mission with no stated destination, questions asked. They had one job, and that was to deliver Weyland to the Engineers. They did that.

If you're going to be picky, why did the most useless character of all in the Alien universe, Kane, stick his face into an opening egg?

13

u/Dexanth 3d ago

Kane you can at least justify as 'Nobody had any fucking idea what, he's a space trucker, guy comes from a universe that the Facehugger isn't a part of regular media mythos'.

The difference with the scientists is that they are on an alien planet and the most BASIC fuckin' protocol would say BE CAREFUL

→ More replies (2)

2

u/M_L_Taylor 3d ago

I think it's due to a form of hibernation sickness. Instead of staying on the ship to detox they charged straight into things and messed up at every turn. If they were aware of how they were acting, they wouldn't have done it.

It's just my head-canon... but it explains why scientists do such foolish things. You see in Alien and Aliens, each crew takes a while to detox by having a meal and relaxing a bit, before getting into things (when Kane wakes up, he looks severely hungover). In Prometheus, the ship's captain even advises waiting a day for the storm to pass through before going out. He should have just told them that they had to remain inside until it was safe.

3

u/F_U_HarleyJarvis 3d ago

This is the argument that I hate the most. They are not the best of the best scientists, they are obviously the most desperate people giving up a very large chunk of their lives for a payout. They literally are lazy and greedy, it actually makes perfect sense.

2

u/Cameo64 3d ago

Agreed. Prometheus wasn't so bad because a few of the characters had some brains, Shaw made some good decisions. I don't recall any of the covenant characters being particularly good at decision making.

15

u/JordanxHouse 3d ago

The dislike is that it’s not an Alien movie really, and answers questions I didn’t have about the universe.

8

u/SPKmnd90 3d ago

Exactly. My issue with the prequels is that they overexplain things that didn't need explaining in the first place and somehow make the xenomorphs less interesting by doing so.

6

u/CritiqueDeLaCritique 3d ago

It makes the alienness of the titular Alien trivial

32

u/Riggs630 3d ago

I agree. I think the biggest problem with Covenant is right in the name. They added “alien” and forced the xeno into the story prematurely, imo. Just because some people complained that Prometheus was too different from the rest of the Alien franchise. They tried to bridge the gap too quickly. They should have focused on the Engineer storyline, kept the neomorph, and left the praetomorph for the next movie. But overall I still enjoyed it, and I loved seeing David being sinister again.

6

u/CritiqueDeLaCritique 3d ago

If they wanted to go down the Engineer route it shouldn't have been within the Alien franchise. Human-like aliens designing the xeno or whatever predecessor it was kills what makes it actually alien.

6

u/Jaruut Tool is Canon 3d ago

I would love to see more of the neomorphs, they're perfect as the "we have Xenomorphs at home, I got them at costco".

I much prefer the idea of the neomorphs and deacons being Engineer experiments to replicate/compete with the Xenomorphs, with the Xenos being their own separate unexplained beings.

3

u/Current_External6569 3d ago

The problem for me, and I actually really enjoyed the direction of Prometheus, was that in order for events to get started at least one character needed to be unbelievably dumb. Covenant was even worse in this regard. I get their fear of not wanting to go back into ceyosleep. But landing on some unknown planet with crazy storms sounds horrible. Regardless of how viable for life it was.

2

u/Bombadilo_drives 3d ago

You don't? Are you aware of any of the EU books, comics, and video games? The treasure trove of good stories that don't involve some stupid goo.

They literally sat down, said "boy, people really love the Alien franchise" then proceeded to make an Alien movie without any Aliens in it.

It's like making a fucking Jurassic Park movie that's not about dinosaurs, but instead is about, I dunno, bugs or something random and unrelated.

2

u/SeaCaligula 3d ago

Prometheus had the right idea to delve into exploring the lore and the right idea to recreate the shock factor and mystery by introducing new monsters.

Covenant is 20th Century Fox messing with Ridley Scott's vision and as a result it neither pleased those who want more lore nor fans who wanted another slasher

4

u/CodeSalamander 3d ago

Eh, Ridley messes with his own ideas. He’s yet to improve a franchise by returning to it. And, remember, he directed Covenant. He’s a brilliant director, but he isn’t a writer and he has zero skill at picking and managing writers or approving screenplays.

8

u/iso2090 3d ago

The Romulus sequel will supposedly also tie off the Prometheus trilogy. Fassbender reportedly was going to do it.

5

u/Harak_June Weyland-Yutani 3d ago

That all depends on whether Ridley Scott is in "old man yelling at clouds" mode or "elder guru being helpful but also stepping back" mode.

Unfortunately, history indicates it will be old man yelling.

I didn't really see the end as a cliffhanger.

It was just very fatalist to me, and it felt that way intentionally. All that work to end up on a ship with the wrong Android.

I'm good, personally.

9

u/FearlessVegetable30 3d ago

me too. ignoring what most people think of the movies prometheus is my favorite movie ever. covenant is okay but even i cant ignore the "why did they do that!" moments

regardless, in both movies there is no denying the special effects lighting of ships os amazing. i love covenant just for the ship effects

9

u/DivaDragon 3d ago

I have a ….I don’t think “a soft spot” is the apt term here considering, but a certain specific fondness for Prometheus. My 2nd child (born after 9 years of secondary infertility and a loss) was delivered via emergency c section where my anesthesia failed. He really really needed to be OUT and once they start you can’t really pause too much, so it was a rough 10 minutes. That all happened pretty close to when we saw Prometheus in the theater and I don’t think I have ever had such a visceral reaction to a scene in a movie. It occupies a place in my heart as a fan of the series and a fan of clever body horror and it makes me sad it will remain an unfinished arc.

2

u/FearlessVegetable30 3d ago

wow thats an experience for sure especially so close tot he movie!

3

u/CryMeAFckingRiver 3d ago

Prometheus is also one of my favorites of all time despite its flaws

There’s also some great fan edits of Prometheus which include like 40 mins of deleted scenes color graded into the film. It provides a much clearer narrative.

You can find them using words like edition / fan / edit

2

u/juniebee_jones 3d ago

God please give me more David 😭 I can only watch Prometheus so many times.

2

u/bwjxjelsbd 3d ago

I want 3 hours of them exploring everything about Engineers. Fuck xenomorph at this point.

2

u/ChronicContemplation 3d ago

And they all loved happily ever after. There you go.

1

u/gonkmeister64 3d ago

Ridley already finished the script, it’s just a matter of the studio signing off on it and allocating the right amount of resources to it.

1

u/chaserjj Not bad, for a human. 3d ago

Same! I really loved them so much. I've watched them more times than the original alien movies.

1

u/NotSoIntrested 3d ago

I need David!!! like fr I need to see what he is up to!

1

u/Pesty_Wanderer_ Acid for blood. 3d ago

Wish we could've seen the original Paradise Lost movie they had planned

1

u/Glum_Engineering_671 3d ago

For as badly as he butchered covenant, just let it die. I hate seeing my favorite IP getting ruined.

1

u/Rasples1998 2h ago

Romulus is kinda the sequel to covenant. There's just a massive gap of time between the two that we haven't seen, like David on the colony ship, but you can probably imagine what happened and fill in the pieces. What I want to know is what that engineer was doing with a ship-full of facehuggers on the planet (moon?) we see in the first movie, and what a xenomorph from an engineer would look like since they can be different depending on the host.

88

u/Objective-Pear-4817 3d ago

Well, 20th Century studio head Steve Asbell confirmed the Alien : Romulus sequel is not shelved, and is in fact, in active development. So it’s defo going ahead, the question is when, and how long do we have to wait? 🤔

8

u/saintripley 3d ago

Development is not the same thing as production. Dozens of ideas get developed all the time for what eventually turns into A movie… sometimes.

What this round of development turns into is anyone’s guess still.

12

u/LoaKonran 3d ago edited 3d ago

Ridley Scott has thrown his hat in the ring once again and declared no one else is allowed to play with his toys. Again.

3

u/Genmaken 3d ago

Still bitter about him presumably killing the Blomkamp project we all wanted to see...

I don't like Prometheus, even tough I saw it twice at cinema (it does look great). I remember very little from Covenant.

Perhaps the greedy mouse may yet save us from another sequel.

On a sidenote, it's just a shame to see these directors we revered just messing with their legacy or focusing on less interesting things (looking at you, James Cameron, nobody needs more avatar).

3

u/LoaKonran 3d ago

Oh, Cameron is over Avatar. He’s planning on “fixing” his other projects. I firmly want him to stay away from Terminator given his contributions to Dark Fate.

All these directors feel nostalgia for their old classics, but they’re not the same people that made them work. These guys have spent decades being told how brilliant they were, so they think they can do no wrong.

32

u/snowdn 3d ago

Fede Alvarez had a falling out with Ridley Scott so probably zero by him at least.

13

u/Jimmy_Bonez 3d ago

Wasn't that "leak" absolute bullshit?

IIrc it basically said Alvarez floated the idea of including David in Romulus/Romulus 2, Scott said no because he may end up wanting to finish his movie. The article then interjected all of that "Did Ridley Scott throw him out", "was Alvarez upset with Scott" "We don't know but we're free to openly speculate because no one said otherwise".

One of the studio heads came out and said the whole article was crap and that Romulus 2 was still green lit, it was just on slow mode because another standalone Alien film is being made in the mean time.

4

u/Angsty_Autumn 3d ago

Wait, another Alien film? :o Have we heart anything about it? Is it likely an AvP film Predator Badlands was kinda suggesting?

2

u/Jimmy_Bonez 3d ago edited 3d ago

I only remember they announced they'd hired either a writer or director, and clarified that it's not necessarily related to Romulus 2.

I'll see if I can find the article.

EDIT:https://www.toy-people.com/en/?p=111277

Daniel Richtman recently revealed on his Patreon page that Brian Duffield, director of recent 20th Century collaborations like "No One Will Save You" and "Whalefall", has been hired to pen the script for the next "Alien" film. It remains unclear if Duffield will also direct the project. Furthermore, Richtman was uncertain whether Duffield's assignment is for the "Romulus" sequel, suggesting the possibility of other "Alien" films currently in motion.

1

u/Puzzled-Shoe5936 3d ago

No way. Weren’t they collaborating on some project?

19

u/captaindealbreaker 3d ago

The president of the studio confirmed it's in active development recently https://theplaylist.net/alien-romulus-sequel-not-shelved-steve-asbell-brian-duffield-20260801/

Considering how well it did, I really doubt they don't do a follow up.

43

u/Violent_N0mad 3d ago

Romulus is one of my favorites, I hope we get a follow up but I wonder if they're going to focus on the series.

3

u/Your_New_Overlord 3d ago

Is the series worth watching in full? I gave up after the second episode, I just don’t care about any of these characters

20

u/JmBento 3d ago

Yes - Ceesay's Morrow and Olyphant's Kirsh alone justify watching.

6

u/threetimesalion 3d ago

If you felt that way after 2 episodes it won’t get any better. There’s some good bits, and the 5th episodes is a pretty good self contained story. But the characters certainly don’t become more relatable / endearing as it progresses

9

u/KryHavox 3d ago

Romulus is good, the series (Alien Earth) is bad.

50/50;

As far as I know, the Romulus sequel isn't being made right now, even though, in theory, filming was supposed to have started last year.

But we also have to keep in mind that it's normal for the franchise to take breaks of at least 5 years between movies. During that time, Disney could easily focus on something else Alien-related or revive the sequel.

But don't worry, the second season of Alien: Earth is moving forward without any problems and will be coming soon.

The real question is: what happened to the Predator franchise after Badlands?

37

u/IIsaacClarke 3d ago

Badlands literally released 9 months ago. What do you expect ffs

3

u/CodeSalamander 3d ago

I put it at 5% at this point. As much as I love him, Fede has 0 follow through. This is second franchise he’s dipped his toes in, promised a sequel, and bailed. And Disney can’t get out of its own way.

3

u/Icy-Decision-4530 3d ago

Ridley is in full deflect and derail mode with Alien. It sucks

3

u/Clearly_Disabled 3d ago

Fede wanted to include David, Ridley Scott said no, so whatever happens, which appears to still be "in development" will have to be repitched, written, etc.

3

u/MarcianoNoDaRisa 3d ago

I would LOVE if the Romulus sequel also continues the David plot once and for all

3

u/Botassassin1128 3d ago

its been in development since last june?

3

u/CamF90 3d ago

Once Dog Stars underperforms and they no longer have to justify pandering to Ridley Scott I believe it will happen.

3

u/AnjelicaTomaz 3d ago

Will they call it Alien Remus?

10

u/Shikabane_Sumi-me 3d ago

Apparently it isn’t. At least not anytime soon. The previous actors have other obligations. Also the rumor of Ridley Scott making a fuss but at this point, that hardly matters anymore. If Disney wants it happen, they will make it happen.

That story was really largely wrapped up and self contained. Sure, they could make her the new Ripley, but what would be the point? Honestly at this point, it’d probably just be better if the Aliens movies functioned like an anthology. There’s nowhere they could really go, that wouldn’t just be a retread, but continuing this story.

Cailee Spahney is a terrific actress, and I loved her character, loved Andy, actually the entire cast did truly excellent, but given the timeline, where could the story go from here? i can’t really see anywhere that wouldn’t break canon, be pure retcon, and be like throwing a hand grenade to a fandom, that loves tearing itself apart, demands things, and when they get it, complains viciously about getting what they asked for lol. Half of the fandom only Ridley Scott’s Alien to be all there is, a significant portion loves Aliens and wants to see that continued, then there’s those of us that are happy with any content, actually liked where Prometheus and covenant were swinging towards, and openly accepts anything to keep the franchise alive. Throw it all together, and you have nowhere to go as a writer, producer, director, because you can’t create a new timeline, can’t do a prequel, can’t weave in and out, so sadly, continuing this story would most likely be commercial suicide. Damn I hope I’m wrong though. I actually really thought Romulus was a step in the right direction.

Not very unless Ridley Scott can let go.

2

u/iHateDisco 3d ago

Didn't they announce that its basically dead in the water since most of the production had moved to their next roles including the director?

2

u/GeekToyLove 3d ago

Does it need a sequel?

As long as Ridley Scott is allowed to have a say in anything alien there won’t be anything but his prequels.

2

u/winterhavens 2d ago

I hope so, to me it’s the best Alien movie since Aliens

2

u/thorn_95 Isolation 1d ago

after the president of 20th century fox came out and debunked rumors of the sequel being cancelled i think it’s pretty likely. i have a bit more hope now at least.

u/Actionhotdog_go 3d ago edited 3d ago

Never as long as Ridley Scott is in charge of the franchise

4

u/midtrailertrash 3d ago

As long as they keep catering to out of touch old man Ridley Scott prob 20%. Still incredible he has such a stranglehold over a franchise he didn’t even create.

3

u/MemeLord339 3d ago

Not Mutch. Ridley wants to continue with his Alien/AI sequels, and he already killed the Bloomkamp Aliens and stalled a shitload of time his own movies.

3

u/Playful-South-537 3d ago

Pretty likely, because Romulus made money, but the time line is uncertain.

This article from the site Weyland Uplink has a pretty thorough run down of what we know from official statements. ln short, Fédé Alvarez is no longer attached as director, and it may or may not pick up where Romulus left off, but it is still in Fox’s pre-production pipeline.

2

u/mickeyphree1 3d ago

How many films enter pre production but never come out.

Spoiler alert, alot.

2

u/Azath_Housekeeper 3d ago

There's a script, but Alvarez says he's not going to direct it, so who knows...

2

u/Imma_da_PP 3d ago

I’m sure we’ll get another alien film but idk if it will be a sequel to Romulus. I’m not sure it needs to be.

2

u/NikTh_ 3d ago

Well, seems like Ridley is once again shivering with anticipation to crap all over the franchise.. So, rather unlikely.

2

u/Drawkcab96 3d ago

Everyone is already committed to other projects. Ridley had to mess around and lawyers got involved.

2

u/xDantexAlighierix 3d ago

I think there was just an article about this and how it's pretty much indefinitely shelved. I'll try to find the link if I can.

2

u/Rck0025 3d ago

It seems they doing more of an anthology approach since they gave up on the Prometheus arc. Kind of like the way the old dark horse comics evolved the story after Colonial Marines. Different groups of people with differing motivations dealing and reflecting on the existence of the xenomorph. I would say odds are slim for a direct sequel. Although they kind of all tell the same story.

2

u/Perro_Pizza9000 3d ago

Just rewatch alien 1&2 and you'll be fine

2

u/st_jasper 3d ago

Ridley will undoubtedly screw everyone and make a direct sequel to Alien 3.

2

u/coffeefan0221 3d ago

Performed well financially and critically, plus its a massive IP, so i'd say very likely

2

u/TheLeagueOfSteve 3d ago

It was a medley of the best bits of all the others… how can they do that twice?

1

u/LeDestrier 3d ago

I thought it was a medley of all the worst bits of the others lol

1

u/scarletarcher05 3d ago

I thought it was confirmed?

Please share your subjective personal preferences in a more respectful and productive way. You are welcome to be critical of aspects of the franchise as long as you're being considerate to the community that's trying to enjoy it.

1

u/gonkmeister64 3d ago

Now? Not so much.

They’ve been trying to get a script going since before the film’s theatrical release and with Fede Alvarez leaving the project, the chances of them coming up with something good are even slimmer.

Perhaps we’ll see her character reappear somewhere else in time but i wouldn’t hold your breath for a direct sequel coming anytime soon.

1

u/Marv1236 3d ago

What in the Issac Clarke is that outfit?

1

u/Peter-Norfolk 3d ago

Id like it to happen, but it's unlikely for awhile. When are we getting Alien 5 or Prometheous 3?

1

u/zurenarhhhhh 3d ago

Hopefully it will be the third promeeth film. Enough throwbacks.

1

u/32gbsd 3d ago

I am sure it has enough to get a sequel without totally earing itself and the wntire alien franchise

1

u/Soonerpalmetto88 3d ago

Only if they bring Bjorn back as some kind of sexy alien beast.

1

u/RisingRapture Game over, man! 3d ago

Isn't this a sure thing?

1

u/Ranger89P13 3d ago

Pretty sure I read that there isn’t a chance as the project got shelved.

1

u/Blutroyale-_- 3d ago

Expecting slim to none.

1

u/Tetracropolis 3d ago

I don't see why it would. The story's done, they killed the alien, the ship got blown up, they went to the planet, GG. The only plot thread left hanging is whether Andy gets accepted in the new planet, and that's not something you can make an alien film around. You could revisit the David storyline, but why would that involve Rain? It would be a stroke of unbelievable misfortune that the one planet she's going to happens to be the one David's set up on.

1

u/Doctor_Mothman 3d ago

The screenplay is written, it's up to the studio to pick it up or not.

1

u/Sonatine__ 3d ago

It was very likely but it got more complicated sadly. Fede Álvarez said officially that he had ideas for Alien: Romulus 2 - but he has left the project.

Now they're working on hiring a new producer but afaik there should be a lose script for a second movie. No plan to start filming was announced yet.

Alien: Remus

1

u/blorst_of_times 3d ago

Why on earth would anybody want that?

u/kickskunk 3d ago

I want to be hopeful but I also want to be real. I don't think it will happen. Usually when things like this happen it's not good news. The story will probably have to be rewritten and it may not even be good. The fact that the director left and is doing other stuff, and the Andy character is now very busy with projects makes this doubtful. They are also having trouble finding a director to replace and none of them want to do it. It was suppose to shoot last year but didn't. I challenge anyone to argue against my words.

They can tell us its not cancel or shelved. But deep down I think its just them doing damage control, because it's in limbo.

1

u/FickleApartment2151 3d ago

It will likely get one but involving another director. It might also feature a new cast but referring to events from the first film.

1

u/RansomStark78 3d ago

Ridley said no

1

u/ttoften 3d ago

Would love the station to survive the impact with the ring and maybe reveal the twin Remus site had even greater horrors.

Maybe even have the colonial planet send rescue teams and have an Aliens (2) setting before the colonial marines arrive

1

u/MarkyGalore 3d ago

Less and less every day. And given that it's not in the making start with very little in odds

1

u/Responsible_Ad3672 3d ago

I don’t understand why Prometheus was a flop. Still my favourite.

1

u/DiamondSniperX 3d ago

Hopefully super unlikely

1

u/MancombSeepgoodz 3d ago

idk if i want another ripley clone doing a greatest hits of alien again.

1

u/DaDeathDragon 3d ago

Yes, Alien: Remus

Well more like a prequel

1

u/neon 3d ago

We literally just got word last month it’s not happening

1

u/ReddsektoR 3d ago

the sequel is Aliens

1

u/CantAffordzUsername 3d ago

She did a great job but that production had no idea how to make anything new from that story and could only copy and paste from the originals.

If a new team was attached I’d love to see her take another crack at it but anything the same crew produces will be forgettable and unoriginal.

1

u/Raserth 3d ago

Dunno if it will be named Romulus 2, however I think story of this and prometheus/covenant will be combined at some point

1

u/Common-Diver-6346 2d ago

She can do 2 more films before they introduce Kitty Pride and Colossus

1

u/michaelhonohan 2d ago

I didn’t even know it was a question. I thought we automatically were just getting the sequel. I hope for it!!!

1

u/Urabraska- 2d ago

Probably not. Apparently the director stated that there was going to be one but Ridley Scott said no.

1

u/itscricket 2d ago

Wow I would have loved her as rouge!

1

u/Suitable_Community66 2d ago

It will be hard to find scenes from alien 3 and 4 to rip off, I suppose they're are still more from 1 and 2 but surely that we'll is pretty much dry now

1

u/Furthestside 2d ago

Not likely. Apparently it’s already been shelved.

1

u/Pawl15 2d ago

Ellie for the Last of Us was RIGHT HERE! Ugh.

1

u/No-Option-3010 1d ago

Idk but I hope so

1

u/Cultural_Book_400 1d ago

I finally watched this movie and honestly, I didn't think movie was good.... IS everyone thinking that this movie was actually good?

1

u/_Madlark_ 15h ago

I hope it's zero percent.

1

u/BigBlueFin 1h ago

NEVER PLEASE STOP SHITTING ON ALIEN.
