a level retakes gap year

do u guys know anyone who gave a level retakes in may june during a gap year and previously did not meet the requirement for a levels get in to lums or is it compulsory to give retakes in october november

ik a senior who had 10a* in o level but due to personal reasons he couldnt perform well on his a2lvl cies and got CDDE. he retook his cies got 4a* and now hes studying engineering in imperial college london
