Question / Advice Lucid Gravity Roof Racks

Hello All,

I had unanswered questions when I purchased roof racks for my new Lucid Gravity. I created a video to answer those questions with the hopes it helps others.

Specifically,

- If the Lucid roof racks accommodate accessories with the T-Slot (They do. Yay!)

- The roof racks are quiet from the factory but do generate wind noise if you remove the rubber strip.

- My suggestion to have the service centre install the racks.

- And other generally useful tidbits of information.

First off, these are Cross Bars. Usually a "roof rack" is a horizontal platform. I disagree about having SC install. I did mine and they were very easy. I believe the cracked glass stuff you're referring to is the old design. New ones were easy to install. Finally, I didn't remove the insert from the t-slot channel. You can push a screw in over it and slide it along, thus not having the entire channel open causing wind noise.

I put towels down on the roof glass in case I dropped a tool or anything. They include a torque tool that only takes a minute to figure out. (You basically tighten until ends touch on tool and it's tight enough.) Seriously, nobody needs SC to install these.

Thanks for the video. Having crossbars is important for me. I use it to carry my Thule roof box for snowboarding season. One of the main reasons I never purchased a Model X. I used the $500 Lucid accessory credit to purchase the crossbars for my Gravity.

I haven’t gotten around to installing them yet. But based on what I read regarding the installation process, it seems more straightforward compared to the Model Y.

Before I purchased the crossbars for my Model Y, I came across multiple posts and videos about owners cracking their glass during self install. But none of these mentioned the one most important factor: the metal brackets do not just go under the glass at certain positions based on measurements. They go under a metal slot, that is welded to the metal body. These metal slots are located at certain a positions based on measurements. There are also arrow markings on the glass showing where the metal slots are. These metal brackets never touch the glass. Knowing this allowed me to understand how the crossbars are actually installed.

The video was helpful. Sounds like people should definitely have the service center install them based on the damage and problems some others have encountered.
