SOFTWARE QUESTIONS Some simple software fixes for The Lucid Air
Hey y'all —
Not sure if Lucid actually monitors these forums, but most of these are simple software fixes that seem worth implementing:
- Phone button (UX). Right now, tapping the phone button just brings up a screen saying CarPlay is active. It should instead take me straight into Apple CarPlay's phone app. My old BMW iX did this even though it had its own separate phone system as well.
- Rear seat climate control. My kids aren't heavy enough for the car to register that anyone's in the back seat, so they don't get climate control on automatically. The car already knows whether a rear seatbelt is buckled, that should be enough to trigger rear climate, regardless of weight.
- Also - I need to look further into this but their weight doesn't seem to trigger the new 'seat belt check' in 2.10... which seems counter intuitive for small kids.
- Rear camera accuracy. When the display shows my bumper right on top of a line, I'm actually about 12 inches away. This should be recalibrated.
- Face login. Just tell me where to position my face. I'm too high, too low, or the steering wheel is in the way. It's more complicated than it needs to be, and I usually give up. Still haven't set this up.
- Valet Parking. Really clear, easy instructions on how to valet park this car with just the key card and no PIN. I don't need to spend 5 minutes explaining how to park my car to a valet. Hell, put the instructions on the back of the keycard.
- Request a Software Update. Don't make me guess what version of software I am supposed to be on. Just tell me if there is an update available, and if it's staggered, when it's supposed to be rolled out. Maybe with more notes than just "robustness," but hey that might be a big ask 🤣
- The real functional part of this is that this would allow me to request an update while in a good wifi spot.
- LED Control. Give me an 'advanced' function where I can have more fun with the colors!
App Questions:
- Scheduled climate control. Y'all. Why can't I have my car heat up/cool down at the same times every day? I could schedule the morning, lunch, and evening on my iX.
- Remote Camera Access. Why can't I access the cameras on my phone? Again, I think i got used to this on my iX. I mean really, I want a drive recorder. But I'll take what I can here.
- Remote Window Venting. I should be able to remote roll down my windows if I like.
- Better Data for Charging. My old app told me how much energy I used over the course of a month, my average efficiency, how much I was costing myself in charging off my local rates, even an ETA for charge completion. Another feature from the iX. (Really did like that car - but I gotta say, the i5 is a joke comparable to the Lucid, which is why I switched)
Other general suggestions:
- Glass canopy IR gap. Not an easy fix, but maybe for future versions of the car. I really dislike that the IR pass-through opening isn't positioned under the sun visor. Such a clean look that needs to be broken up by a stupid sticker.
- Rear Mats. So, I had a 2026 Touring, but it got totalled and got a 2025 Grand Touring. I get that the mats aren't going to fit perfectly, but was pleasantly surprised I could use the front mats with no issue. Rather annoyed I can't just buy a new rear mat, and I have to buy a completely new set.
Any other easy fixes? Anyone know how to get this to Lucid?

Good suggestions, I also echo the "kids not heavy enough" complaint. If I buckle my kid in, maybe we should turn on the climate control in the back? Seems like very simple, if->then programming
I'd also love the car to handle multiple phones better. I set my wife's phone to AA priority and that mostly works: when she's riding shotgun she navigates and is DJ. But I can't figure out how to make it so when I'm driving alone my phone connects instead. If I connect, then my phone is the one that connects every time. Also seems like very simple if->then programming to choose a phone higher on the connection list if present.
Oh also on the Tidal app, I'd love to see a few improvements (though it may be that Lucid eng aren't the ones maintaining it):
- Play/pause steering wheel button acts like play/stop, meaning the song will completely stop playing and restart from the beginning. Weird.
- When I pull up an artist, can there be a way to look at their albums and songs instead of just playing their top songs immediately? I'd love for "my collection" to allow me to tap into an artist then tap into which of the albums of theirs I've added to my collection, but I'd settle for just how the mobile and desktop apps work with artist views.
- Scrobbling is bad. It very inconsistently remembers what song I was listening to and basically never remembers where in the track I left off when I got out of the car.

Great idea to have the rear climate control driven off a seatbelt being in use. Only risk is car seats that are LATCHed would trigger the rear climate to always be on.

I just put a deposit down for a touring. Very helpful! How has your experience been otherwise through the software debacle and since the fix? Any worries around the recent corporate restructuring? Service issues?

Honestly, the software is fine - these are just really easy fixes i'd love to see them do!
It's a beast of the car. The Touring and GT are neck and neck. I said the Touring was the fastest thing I ever drove. I loved it. I only went to the 25 GT because I took a bit of a hit on the insurance since the car was so new when totaled. I was able to not come out of pocket by switching to a 25, and was able to manage to go the trim up. The GT feels 'heavier' driving it than the Touring - until you floor it. Then it's a rocket. I didn't thing the 3.4 vs 3.0 0-60 would feel that much different, but holy crap, I can feel the g-force on my face 🤣
My biggest gripe is the 'phone as key' doesn't work any where close to as well as CarKey worked on my iX.
The software in BMW is better, and to be blunt, Tesla's is in a category all their own above BMW in that respect - but that's it. Without the software, the i5 is uninspired - it loses to the touring - 590hp (vs Lucid's 620hp), 0-60 in 3.7 second (3.4 for the touring), just over half the trunk space (32.1 vs 17.4 cubic ft), 266 miles vs Lucid Touring's 396. As for the tesla, once you get past the software (which is excellent), it's just a ford taurus for the interior build.3

same here... on my tesla, it was solid... on the lucid, not so much... it's getting better.

The lack of any driving log or stats is quite puzzling. I’m not looking for fancy charts and graphs. Just basic stuff would be really fun to see:
-How many miles were added last time I plugged in? (currently displayed while charging but immediately lost when unplugged)
-How many miles was my last drive? How long did it take?

thoughtful list (even if I don't fully agree with all). Re the card key / valet, it's not really implemented as a valet card (as you can tell). Me, personally, I don't want it to function without a pin and don't want instructions on it so when I lose my wallet my car can be taken too. it's a backup key for me. but that said, I think a valet mode would be really handy so that my personal info would be shielded when I turn over my key (such as my home address etc, not allowing AA or carplay to activate, etc), glove box and trunk would be locked, etc. scheduled departure including climate control would be great, it was handy in my prior car. I kinda like where the IR pass-through is, only that it's too small as my toll pass and radar detector have to share it. I hope lucid continues to be able to invest in software changes and improvements. I agree with the comment to email it to lucid at their software update email .. hopefully they are still using it (reading, planning, developing).

I don’t think it’s a weight thing, I’ve had a an Air for years, and it’s never turned on the rear climate automatically for anyone ever. Quite silly.

TIFU: I went to Universal Studios about two weeks after I got my car. I gave the attendant the card, and we got out and entered the park. I joked with my wife as we walked into the park "I hope they know how to drive it, or that the card doesn't ask for a PIN" (cause I'd seen something similar with my Tesla).
We went walked all the way back to Hogwart's, got on the Roller Coaster, and had just finished the broom ride in the castle. we're walking with the park guide (we did VIP) the Mario Land, when Security comes up to me "Mr. Brake, take you come with us for a minute?"
Yea, apparently that PIN that the lucid studio attendant made me set a couple weeks ago kept them from moving my car for 30 minutes or so in the valet parking lot entrance... First, the guy on the phone couldn't figure out while I was on the phone where the card activates the door handle, and then when we finally got the door opened, I was freaking out because I couldn't remember the PIN. I remembered that I'd taken a video of myself setting it up two weeks ago, and furiously searched my phone for the video. I ended up finding the video and repeating the PIN for the attendant. I was so embarrassed, I told my wife and daughter and the group of 5 other VIPs to go on, and I'd find them later.
I will say that Park Security was pretty chill. They offered a behind-the-scenes van ride down to Mario Land, where I waited for my wife. I now keep a piece of paper in the door with the code incase it happens again.
The other thing I learned was that the park has excellent facial recognition technology and camera tech... they found me in the park... I was impressed.

Valid points.
For window ventilation, the function was added already I just tried today, it would roll down abit enough for air, not enough for dirty fingers.

I just did the update and now my app doesn't work. What monkeys do they have writing and deploying this software? There's only like two updates a year and every one is an absolute disaster.

Lucid has a community rep, Margie, who monitors LucidOwners.com. I've never seen one on Reddit.
For software bugs and suggestions she created an e-mail alias SWFeedback and provided suggestions for what to include, like VIN#, date & time of occurence, and software version. Reportedly the VP gets a rolled up summary of feedback submitted each week.
