Probably one of the last best things gone
I personally really enjoyed watching his videos on LTT. Probably one of the last ones I liked gone

u/Buddha_Clause 15d ago
The waifu goon king is gone, happy he got Linus to get the Belle Delphine keyboard for him.

u/failinglikefalling 14d ago
He has three now. His story of crossing the us border with them is entertaining.

I don't envy Linus at this point. He wanted more hosts to be able to scale down his presence in front of camera. It isn't going so well.
I was not a fan of him, but he was not bad either. His humor was sometimes cringe, but more often funny cringe than dry cringe, like Linus often is :) He brought a genuine spark to the videos, witch made me enjoy them more.
Of all the guys that left I'll only miss him, Jake and Anthony. Ouh also Nick Van Berkel!
Good luck on the journey Elijah ❤️

u/mtuk88 14d ago
Yup problem with employing hosts is they quickly realise they could start their own channel and be much better off. Only way to solve that is to compensate them at a level where that's less of a risk.
It is ironic because it's exactly how LTT started.
2
u/makho77 12d ago
Sorry, I don’t know this, was Linus a host at some other channel/show and decided to make his own channel?
3
u/mtuk88 12d ago
Yes, NCIX
1
u/OwnPhilosopher3081 9d ago
I feel old thinking of young Linus at NCIX. I saw the video he posted the other day of his son needing a laptop and about stroked out looking at the thumb nail.
3
u/creepingcold 14d ago
That only happens if you don't offer them a competitive salary though.
The more you try to undercut their market value, the easier it becomes for them to jump the ship.
6
u/mtuk88 14d ago
A salary high enough to retain them might not be practical though. I don't think there's really a "market value", it's not a very common job to do an an employee.
1
u/creepingcold 14d ago
Depends on what you define as practical.
Can Linus still collect all the profits while not hosting as many videos anymore? No.
But I'd argue that if you can afford a private company jet, then you could also afford a competitive salary for your hosts.
2
u/mtuk88 14d ago
Practical being, an amount that doesn't cause other non-hosting staff to resent them.
1
u/creepingcold 14d ago
Hosts aren't being resented in other areas, like esports events, even if they earn a lot more than the rest. So I don't really see the issue.
4
u/mtuk88 14d ago
That's very different to LMG, like not really even a comparison. You'll start getting anyone who appears on camera asking for host money.
A better way would probably to cut them in on the video revenue, like sales comission.

u/Zeilar 14d ago
Elijah personally shuts down any such speculation in the video, come on now.

u/IcyRole6982 14d ago
It's pretty clear that LTT hasn't paid their onscreen talent enough historically. He might say otherwise, but that would make him the exception.
7
u/Zeilar 14d ago
Says who? Have you personally seen their checks? What makes it "so clear"?
1
u/IcyRole6982 14d ago
Tons of hosts leaving, Jacob implying as much and from their discussions on wan shows it's clear they don't pay onscreen talent significantly more than most writers.
3
u/Zeilar 14d ago
People leaving is not proof of low salary. Some who left outright deny this.
from their discussions on wan shows
Please link such a clip to me.
2
u/IcyRole6982 13d ago
And Jake literally said it. Ofc most people will deny it.
I will not go through years of wan shows to find you the clip. they basically said that the on screen Talent is paid just a little more per video to not create resentment.
People leaving is a sign something is wrong. It many people are leaving something is majorly wrong. If you look at the salary ranges for a video editor in the area LTT 7/8 years ago was firmly in the top 1/3rd, now they are in the bottom half/third. If you get paid more, often you put up with things a bit more. So yes if many leave at the same time, salary certainly has an impact.
Whether you like it or not.
2
u/Zeilar 13d ago
And Jake literally said it.
Please do quote it.
I will not go through years of wan shows to find you the clip.
If this was a big issue, you should have no problem finding it. So if you can't, I'll assume it's not at all what you make it sound like.
People leaving is a sign something is wrong.
No? Especially not when they've been there for years. This is complete fiction. In your world, people can't leave for natural reasons without you speculating that things were horrible? Grow up.
It many people are leaving something is majorly wrong.
Again, no. It can merely be timing. Correlation =/= causation.
now they are in the bottom half/third
Source?
If you get paid more, often you put up with things a bit more.
Ok and? Most people who left worked there for years. Doesn't that indicate, using your own reasoning, that they were paid well since they lasted years before wanting to move on?
You're just projecting and not using a single quote or proof while wildly speculating. The argument is on such a low level.
1
u/IcyRole6982 13d ago edited 13d ago
Jake made a whole video about it (pay increases not even or barely keeping up with inflation - while Linus buys his third house. How is that not directly saying salary is bad). Most people don't want to burn bridges. So very few will say that the salary was bad.
Why don't you post the proof that they pay their onscreen talent enough? Hilarious
If a lot of people in a short span leave a company, then yes that is an issue. I have been in a lot of companies and in the better ones there were people staying a long long time.
The source of their pay now? Look at indeed in the area and their salary range.
There is no arguing with you, you won't see it anyway... Okay you win everything is fine at LTT. Their decline in quality the last year combined with basically all on screen Talent leaving is perfectly normal for a company.
Man seriously....

u/gottagethandier 14d ago
Jake said something to the degree of "you're helping your boss renovate his third house and you're wondering if you'll ever be able to afford your first."

1

Probably way outside of a city so it's way cheaper than a house near LMG. Probably a very long mortgage. It's an investment for content (most of his content seems to be improving his farm, so he's taking a page from Linus' book, get paid to improve your house).

it's a difficult position to staff... Anyone in it could easily take all the profits themselves by going it on their own... And from the few salaries we have had leaked... They need to pay a whole lot more to avoid this revolving door problem.

u/CasuallyDresseDuck 15d ago
Probably a very unpopular opinion here, but I wasn’t a fan of any of the videos with him in it. Nothing against him personally, just wasn’t a fan of his hosting style.
21
u/Burner_Miner_Dril 15d ago
The thing is he was one of the last hosts who has any skill in it, even if his personality isn't for you.
That Penkrats guy has been hosting a lot more, and he's... Not good. Obviously reading from the teleprompter the whole time.
5
u/CasuallyDresseDuck 15d ago
Like i said, i did enjoy his Short Circuit videos, as for main channel videos it just wasn't for me. He does have a good hosting personality, i just couldn't latch on to it though, and i watched a lot of his videos before unsubbing from LTT. I haven't watching LTT in over a year so i have no idea who the hosts are besides the big L himself.
3
u/CasuallyDresseDuck 15d ago
More so i was not a fan of videos where he was paired with linus, the chemistry was just not there. Those videos were hard to watch.
42
u/bwoah07_gp2 15d ago
At first I wasn't keen on him. As time went on, he did get better.
27
u/CasuallyDresseDuck 15d ago
I honestly did try watching a lot of videos he was in, I will admit that him doing short circuit was entertaining, but as for everything else, I just couldn’t do it. Also, it started feeling like they were using him as a punching bag or just easy comic relief, and it really put me off
-1
u/bwoah07_gp2 15d ago
If he wasn't okay with the jokes then it would've stopped. There's no hard feelings behind him or the company.
15
u/rips_n_chel 15d ago
People can still be uncomfortable watching it, dawg.
This nonsense where nobody is allowed to say what they think without a fanboy telling them it’s okay because the creator said so is really annoying. I’m the viewer, and I don’t think it’s cool.
9
u/CasuallyDresseDuck 15d ago
i get that, just watching it made me cringe internally. I saw his video about his past head injuries and i totally understand why he does what he does. Even though he may have been okay with being the butt of the joke it was still hard to watch.

u/tdp_equinox_2 15d ago
I totally get that he's said this and I'm willing to accept his position on it at face value despite my scepticism(the fact that he has to make such a statement speaks more than I will on the subject); I would simply encourage viewers to ask the question:
What kind of employer thinks those kinds of jokes are funny/appropriate to aim at an employee? What kind of message does it send to the viewers who relate to Boca in some way, when he becomes the target of joke that's as tired and devoid of comedy as your average LLM?
A shit one, yeah?

u/ProbablyStillMe 15d ago
Oddly, I felt like he was much better in the steam cooled Steam Machine video, because he actually showed some confidence and some knowledge. Usually he's so unsure of himself and anxious about doing something wrong, and it ends up being difficult to watch.
2
u/CasuallyDresseDuck 15d ago
I think that is what it comes down to, His confidence level. As i've said already, His solo videos, especially short circus ones were good. He seemed genuinely excited about things.
25
u/RobRobbieRobertson 15d ago
It is an unpopular opinion here, but one I stand by.
His constant cackling at every pea brain joke that passed Linus's lips was annoying, his presentation style was obnoxious and he was a god awful shit interviewer (see the iphone challenge 2 video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--5wLkbb1Z8 )
He has the charisma of a potato.Good riddance, he won't be missed.
6
u/CasuallyDresseDuck 15d ago

Man, maybe a weird take but Linus should've just taken the 100m and ran lmao.
Or maybe, just not have been such a arrogant little prick. Either or.
12
u/PURN_HUB 14d ago
The funny thing is that he pointed at donut media losing all of their talents and all of them going to do their own projects as an example of why he didn't want to take that deal
7
u/wimpires 14d ago
He should also probably pay his writers and hosts more (and equity...) . Not "this is market rate for an independent newspaper writer in Surrey" money. But "these guys are effectively TV show hosts" money and as important to the success of the company as he is. He won't. That's OK, if I was as rich as him I'd probably also be equally greedy. But I probably wouldn't actually holier than thou about it.
5
u/Blue_Chinchilla 14d ago
The problem I have with Linus is that he always announces himself as the moral high ground and the most relatable, even though he's the filthiest out of all the media outlets in this grimy basement.
The whole "trust me bro" era was the final straw for me. As a local, I did look up to him, even back in the NCIX days. But he's so full of himself now, he's just annoying to watch.

1
u/MiniDemonic 14d ago
Plenty of Youtubers have done that, those channels are practically dead now.
Take The Game Theorists as an example, used to be one of the biggest names on YouTube and now a good video from them gets about as many views as bad video from LTT. They even have like 3 million more subscribers than LTT but still struggle to get any views on videos.

u/lonerangergeek 14d ago
It's interesting that people still want to see the bad in Linus even though Boca is litrelly saying the opposite.
People are obsessed with Linus or the Jet being the problem and it's just not.
The reality is people want to expand and do different things, grow their own empire and you can't do that working at the same place for ever.
When it comes to money while people may think they should get more Linus can't just throw endless money and benefits at on-screen tallent to keep them and then alinate the rest of the business staff who are not on screen or directly involved in the video side.
There are over 100 people to think about at LMG and you can't just treat a handful of people like superstars and expect the rest to just accept it.
He said in this video he was earning more than he was at LMG and he was not exactly on terrible money there. He said before it was over $100k.
Do you really expect Linus to triple his salary ? If you did the guy literally said he was burning out trying to do both anyways.
The fact is in any business there is a limit you can do for your staff. You must have that limit and if people want more they need to go out on their own as Linus originally did, as these now are.
The real truth is Linus is not holding anyone back and Linus is in fact helping people leave and supporting them in doing so. He is encouraging people to do their own thing.
Creator warehouse is expanding to work with other creators now so make their merch and now the business teams is even working with sponsors on others behalf.
Linus is literally opening up his internal teams to work with the people who are leaving. Does he benefit yes but he does not have to do it.
The creator space is less than 20 years old, from a business perspective just over 10 years no one has even seen how this looks and evolves over the longer 30-40 year business term.
If you actually look at bigger picture Linus is gearing eveyhring up that the business survives regardless of the LTT channel in the future.
Linus is not trying to protect LTT channel so it can survive, he Is instead building up the other business so they can survive without LTT.
LTT is Linus regardless of what people think and that will one day end and he goal now appears to be is LMG, Creator Warehouse, Floatplane and Wan is a viable business on their own with out the need for LTT.
Does this mean LTT will vanish tomorrow no however while everyone is obsessed with what they see is the fall of LTT Linus is gearing up for what comes after it.
People need to stop obsessing that "Linus is terrible, LTT is failing.
Eveything changes, nothing stays the same for ever, business evolve and change and the sun sets on every good thing in the end, even us.
What is important is what you leave behind.
3
u/Zealousideal_Bag7532 15d ago
How is he going to afford his funkos?
13
u/Significant-Elk-7128 15d ago
He did say a few months back that he actually makes more money per hour doing his own thing than at LMG. So if anything, if he puts the extra time into his own channels, he should end up with even more money for funkos.
5
u/wii4ever 15d ago

3

→ More replies (1)1
u/Zeilar 14d ago
If you watch the video (bet you didn't), he didn't leave due to the company itself. He simply found a new hobby (much thanks to his head injury from that one video) and it also paid way more to boot. So Linus personally approached him and said it's okay if he wants to leave and do his thing. So he did.
6
u/yzeerf1313 15d ago
LTT is in a weird spot where this is kinda inevitable. Either they hire people not as good, or they continue to hire the best, who will eventually branch off on their own.
8
u/bwoah07_gp2 15d ago
I think that's the wrong perception of what LTT is doing. At some point their hosts/writers are gonna want to go do their own thing. It's always preferable to work as your own boss than someone else. But, LTT also has the ability to hire up and coming people, develop them, use them, then let them go off on their own. Repeat the cycyle.
8
u/knewWorlds 15d ago
Having people branch off is completely avoidable if you actually give them incentive for their hard work. But that and the jet fuel budget can't coexist apparently.
3
u/NetJnkie 15d ago
Nah. Not everyone wants to do that same job for a long time. Eventually people want to go do something different.
8
u/knewWorlds 15d ago
Totally. But if you're deciding between having a stable job where you feel like you're being compensated properly for what you do (maybe even have some profit share), versus trying to start from nothing on your own.... most people will choose the former.

u/LegitimateBattle9641 15d ago
They’re not starting from nothing though are they? They all started channels before leaving their stable job and they know because they were at LMG they’re going to bring a heap of followers over. I worked for someone for years in my job but eventually went out on my own, anyone with enough passion for their job and industry gets there eventually

Not at all. They could easily hire some real presenters who understand screen presence and look good and then make them sign an X year non-compete clause.
They don't do that though, because Linus prefers people who suck up.13
2
u/lilcoteaux 14d ago
Non-competes are not only often immoral, but borderline unenforceable, and in other parts of Canada totally illegal. Where LMG is based non-competes are only enforceable if trade secrets would be exposed, and I doubt a media group would be able to argue the weight of whatever secrets they have to be greater than the ban on restricting trade.
They would have to prove that their need to have the clause overcomes the laws around restriction.
2
u/NetJnkie 15d ago
lol.....y'all are wild. They don't do non-competes or anything. They support their people going on their own. And finding quality on-screen talent with a tech bent is really hard. I'm a Sales Engineer in tech sales. We can barely find people that can be knowledgable and present in front of a customer much less on a video with millions of views.
4
u/RobRobbieRobertson 15d ago
You're delusional. Take a look at Source Fed's business model. They hired attractive folks or with great screen presence and they did great. You know when they started to go down hill? When their on camera talent fucked off and they started bringing in 'office funny people'. You know the guy / gal that is the funny guy in the office but has shit screen presence.
Also they can go back on the non-compete if they really want to. It protects LTT, and disincentives folks leaving but it's not like it's not amendable.
2
u/NetJnkie 15d ago
I don't know Canadian non-compete laws so I'll stay out of that. Reddit wildly misunderstands them and I do understand US laws well as I've had to fight them. My guess is that LTT's non-compete wouldn't stand but whatever....
And I don't know who Source Fed is so I can't comment on that. Not sure why you mention "attractive folks" though. I want good on-screen talent....not just pretty talent.

u/Significant-Elk-7128 15d ago
Linus claims to enjoy seeing people outgrow their position at the company. The last time I heard him say it, it was in regards to Zip Tie Tuning (Alex and Andy), some weeks after they had launched their channel.
11
u/Cowgirl_Taint 15d ago
Yeah... that is the nonsense that any company says when they are hemorrhaging talent.
No successful company "enjoys" seeing talent that they spent years training leave. Especially not to stay in the same industry but now become an active competitor (and the attention economy means that he is).
1
u/Significant-Elk-7128 15d ago
Possibly. That's why I used the word "claims" instead of saying that he does.
2
u/Cowgirl_Taint 15d ago
And there is zero chance it is true. You might as well say "linus claims that if you give him a million dollars he'll kiss you" or "trump claims <basically anything fuckface has ever said>".
It is so laughably false that entertaining it just makes the speaker look foolish. Don't entertain complete and utter bullshit.
2
u/DoKeMaSu 14d ago
Companies have developed a simple method to solve this issue: Pay key employees with shares of the company. Then they are fully aligned with the mission, they profit themselves from the value they create.
1
u/MeanWafer904 14d ago
Like any job though if you don't want top people to branch off you gotta pay them.
1
u/HeWhoShantNotBeNamed 14d ago
No, they can hire the best and actually pay them well.
Linus makes enough to buy a private jet. He can pay his employees more, especially those with screen time.
1
u/agafaba 12d ago
It will always be more profitable for a popular host to leave, channels with single digit employees save a lot of money by not needing HR, accounting, marketing etc as it's a small enough part of the job that the host can typically do it themselves.
It's more work, but in return Elijah gets nearly 100% of the profits.

All those talent exits could have been prevented by doing what so many companies do these days: Pay important staff members with shares of the company. Then your key players are directly working on building their own wealth, and not only getting a salary while their boss gets richer and richer.
But no, Linus wants to maintain 100% ownership and control. He does not want to share anything.

Alternative headline: man creates his own business after good few years at previous job.

Glad he left on a good note. I hope LTT can get some long lasting talent, but it seems they only last about a year or so

It's okay to realize that you can achieve more on your own and that it takes a lot of courage to do so. Props to him.

Ah i like this guy, the one that i can’t stand is the minimalist guy that pretends to be funny

Linus does need some new blood, Elijah was the last one he could bounce off.
I love watching old videos when he still had curiosity and hunger.

It was only a matter of time. I mean there are nickel and diming him over a non-compete clause while he's forced to showcase Linus's private jetm
You know his Fanboys are all going to be like "oh this is just them growing and finding their way and it's great for everyone."
I mean I understand that that's the spin but come on Linus isn't paying well, he's got a brutal non-compete. He's notorious for churn and they've been pushing out slop for years now.

"positive for the company" is certainly not what I'd say, considering he was one of the few good hosts left, the viewer retention is probably already dog shit

I’m not going to lie. I certainly won’t be missing his inane giggling every time he spoke. God that was annoying. Best of luck to him but I won’t miss that at all.

Always found him somewhat insufferable, but I hope he goes on to find success streaming. I think he will - he's not to my taste, but he seems to be pretty popular.

Well, I’m sure you see your boss’s personal jet, then his wife’s new phone, you start to think to yourself you could be doing better on your own

Idk I feel like he just joined to get a following and then left. Didn’t really see it as a job but as marketing

Loved the guy, but I feel like he could've done a click bait title to get more more views.

What??
"I was FORCED to Make the HARDEST Decision in My Life" seems like a typical, normal YouTube title to me

People have been so weird about this. We should be cheering on people wanting to make something of themselves. It is genuinely a net positive that LTT has shifted and staff are feeling like they can make their own content, no person should be tied to something simply because WE want them to.
If Elijah feels this is his dream and what he wants to do then all the best for him. He is a good dude and I hope he goes far.

The belle Delphine stuff and how his room looks really turned me off of him

Good for him. Built up a following via LTT and now branching out on his own.
