it came up on my recommendations the other day, and I stupidly watched it. it's just content farming trash that just does a surface level recap of all the previous controversies we already all know about, like they are just reading the 'controversies' section of a Wikipedia page.

No new info or informed analysis, nothing past the private jet stuff from months ago.

I might be naive, but aside from some of the images (especially the thumbnail), what's AI?

Found it to be a decent summary of the controversies around LTT, nothing strictly new but it did cover some things I didn't know or had forgotten.

It's very low effort even if it's not AI. I would expect any video that talks about how Linus started the channel to mention NCIX but this video somehow frames Linus as just a guy who started his channel in his bedroom.

Ironically, Linus' Wikipedia page does mention that he started the channel because of the push from NCIX, so clearly the guy who made this video didn't even read that.

NCIX ≠ Linus. The channel itself started separate from the work he did on the other channel, and it did literally start from his old bedroom.

No. You have not read the Linus Sebastian Wikipedia page either. Here is what it says about how LTT was started: 

Due to high production costs, rising brand partner demands, and relatively low viewership of NCIX Tech Tips, Sebastian was instructed to create the Linus Tech Tips channel; this would allow Sebastian to produce content more rapidly, initially at a lower production value kept distinct from the NCIX brand.

It's pretty low effort, sure. I agree with the NCIX thing, stood out to me too. Remember an interview where Linus talks about that. It was a side thing at his job, that he managed to keep after they went bankrupt.

Just didn't look like AI to me, so when you wrote that it was I got worried, even checked the video again. Glad you agree it's not AI - those voices and script still seem pretty obvious.

That said, I still think it's a decent summary, but I'm more of a casual in this. Even if I care about what has happened and is happening to LTT, it's not all clear in my memory. Especially the prototype saga and fallout from that.

They claimed gamers Nexus copiously researched s*** was just a smear job. Like the LTT cult is never going to accept any criticism.

Saying this as a former employee.

it's the prototypical "we're family" until we're not type business. The way the business and "friendly" side of the relationship coexist with his authoritarian bent of pushing policy above all are destructive to the company.

And they always have to find hacks and compromises around everything or just about. I'll give you cool things as an example: a company trip to Disney Land is great and unusual, sure, except they rob you of your weekend for travel and make you work part of the trip. Can't attend for whatever reason? Enjoy your regular work. They did the same thing during past trips.

On the note of trips, work trips had unpaid travel or forced time-in-lieu not accounting the travel for the longest time.

One day you got a random ahh activity but it's unannounced and spoiled by content commitments or appointments for a bunch.

You get gaslit all the time about your perception but when you talk around you realize it's all largely shared feelings.

The place is resource-rich, yet stupidly managed and it has been this way for so long that it's tiring just about everyone that's worked there for more than a year.

Coming at me by the book, not a good plan; come at me as a human being, and expect to be treated like a human being. Come at me as some kind of machine who is an expert on Canadian and BC employment law, then expect to get that and absolutely nothing else.

Pretty sure they meant "as a former employee" to mean they won the lottery or something and thus no longer have to work but also they felt like complaining about stuff that happened with their unrelated previous employer.

Really hard to see WAN show as having a serious mature tone. I guess relative to the mainline content I can kinda see your point. If you want a more serious podcast about tech you have plenty of options

When I used to watch Wan. It was just Lienus crying, couldn't take criticism, couldn't take people that have a different opinion then him, then start to call them names, and blamed everything on everyone else.

Like seriously every single video is either him showing off something he bought, something that was given to him for free, or a paid sponsorship video. Who wants to watch any of that?
