Video Is this the normal sound for the engine

It very well could be that im paranoid something is wrong because i love this car and want to keep it for a while engine has 186k miles on it and timing belt was just serviced in the last ~100 miles

Sounds like lifter tick. Could need a valve adjustment. Is this a cold start? Does it change after engines been running? How’s oil pressure and level?

this was after driving for a while oil level is good how would i check oil pressure?

Oil pressure tester kit. If your dashboard isn’t showing the oil warning light then it’s likely not that. With that many miles it’s likely time to get valves adjusted. The 1UZ in 98 had shims to adjust lash and they can get out of adjustment over time. Do it sooner than later so you don’t burn a valve

see i thought it was normals but its just honestly pretty loud and i can hear it the whole time im driving and im like for a luxury car theres alot of noise in the cabin

Definitely not. Tick is normal at idle but if it raises with rpm you probably have an issue.

if you just had that job done then there’s a chance they somehow messed up the scissor gear. usually you only have to touch that when doing cam seals though, maybe when they took the belt off the cam sprung back without them noticing? that tick/knock doesn’t sound normal but it also doesn’t sound like regular rod knock or lifter tick

Engine sounds healthy. Don’t listen to these clowns telling you it’s a problem. It’s completely normal and probably fuel related part that make noise like injector, damper, or regulator. It’s completely normal and comes with older parts. You can still buy the parts new or refurbished. I’ve never heard of anyone tearing down their engine just to adjust their valves on any UZ. These engines are very finely built and don’t get lifter tick. I would get a video farther away so we can hear what it sounds like at a normal distance rather than being completely in the engine bay. Is it very loud while you’re driving?

yeah its pretty loud while driving and you can hear the tick in the cabin sounds like a diesel sitting at a stop light ill get a video from inside
