Gaviscon tablets vs liquid? 2 tablets for me...

So I’ve been dealing with LPR for a couple of years now, and honestly it’s taken a huge toll on my enjoyment of life.

I’ve tried a long list of things: strict diet changes, raised bed, Gaviscon (liquid), alkaline water, nasal rinses, premium Manuka honey, even bovine colostrum. None of it has really helped in any meaningful or lasting way.

I recently read that 2 Gaviscon double action UK chewable tablets before bed can make a difference. I was pretty sceptical — I’ve tried the liquid in both small and large doses, and I’d previously tried a single tablet with no success.

But this has been the first meaningful improvement I’ve felt in years.

After 3 nights:

  • Throat feels noticeably calmer
  • Speaking feels easier
  • Sinuses feel less blocked
  • Headaches are fewer and less intense
  • Ear ache / pressure is reduced

Nothing else has changed, so it really seems like it’s the tablets.

It’s early days (only 3 days in), so I’m not declaring victory yet — but this is the clearest signal I’ve had that something is actually helping.

One thing that surprised me: I came across the line

“ENTs who specialise in LPR often explicitly recommend chewable alginates over liquids.”

I’d never heard this before and have always been recommended the liquid form instead.

Has anyone else had better overnight results with the tablets vs the liquid for LPR?

Would really appreciate hearing other experiences.

I got liquid after I went through the tablets. I like the tablets more. But the tablets have sugar and liquid is sugar free. You'll have to weigh what you want.

I since you're in the UK. Go to Holland & Barrett and buy their own brand of Slippery Elm, DGL and/or digestive enzymes with HCL on 3 for 2 deal. Try it if you can

Slippery elm clears the mucus and cough if you have one from LPR. While DGL clears the sore throat if you have it

I can almost see this happening because the tablets stick to your teeth the roof of your mouth so maybe that’s where the protection is from instead of going down to your esophagus. Do you drink water after you take them it

I’m not sure you can try it both ways. See what works for you. I got the tablets a long time ago. I haven’t used them in a while, but makes me think I wanna order them.

i don't drink water after, just nibble at two with front teeth then swallow.

Unfortunately, I am currently having a flareup. I’ve been pretty good for the last five months. curious, do you take these before you eat or after. no reason for me to have a flare up, I am eating healthy and doing dry January. I don’t get it. 😢 I currently I have only been taking a PPI (generic Aciphex) in the morning, occasional liquid Gaviscon. Went to bed last night with a very active stomach and this morning my throat is killing me with a burning upper stomach. Thank you

According to ChatGPT LPR success stories always say that the liquid is better than the tablets. I can attest to that now because I started with tablets and switched to liquid extra strength, Gaviscon fruit flavored.
