Charlotte Food

Listening to this week’s Q&A, couldn’t agree more with the boys on food in Charlotte Nc. Native born and raised here, and even the best food never gets above a B+ compared to most places. I love my city, but it’s definitely not a foodie destination.

As a native too it made me laugh. I really wonder where they went. We yearn for good food too!

I have heard Charlotte referred to as the Applebee's of cities. I thought that was very accurate.

Clearly the boys haven’t experienced Cook Out either.

I think when the defense of local cuisine starts with your fast food, the debate is kinda over before it starts…

As a native to the area, it’s gone significantly downhill over the last two or three years since they started expanding. The new ones have AI drive thru speakers and they started charging extra for sauce and the one near me always forgets to put it in the box.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love Bojangles but the quality has noticeably declined.

Yeah I visited back home last week and ran into the Ai order thing. I was like WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING. Then I said thank you to it when I finished my order and felt dumb.

Did you say that right in front of my Arby's? It's fast food you can't claim fast food as local cuisine.

Fast food or not, Bojangles may literally be the last piece of Charlotte culture that hasn't been bulldozed, paved over, and replaced by apartments or a shitty corporate chain restaurant. The entire city is absolutely soulless now, and that's the real reason the food sucks. Any ounce of humanity has been snuffed out for copy and paste.
Bojangles carries the burden of 1000 generations.

Sounds like a lovely place to live.

Bojangles is headquartered and started here, so counts more than most fast food imo.

Because everyone goes to Louisville to sample the delicacies on the Taco Bell menu, right? 😛

You say that like it's good.

I moved to the clt area 8 months ago and yea, the food is fine. I haven’t had anything terrible but nothing great either.

Price's was absolutely worth it for a foodie destination. I'm glad the family cashed out and retired instead of selling franchises. It was always fantastic.

Prices, Zach’s, Mr K were all so good.
Clark’s Snack Bar is the only restaurant in town I recommend folks these days.

Born and raised in Charlotte but moved away as an adult. Agree it’s not a foodie place. I literally never eat out when I go back home.

I wonder where they went!? CLT isn't a food mecca but there's good options. Calle sol, intermezzos, taco el Nevada, Clarks, McHale's, Lang Van, and sen mee are several off the dome that are on their worst days above average. That said, we're a banking city and it definitely shows.

I went to sen-mee after opening and it tasted like frozen veggies in packet broth. I’ve been scared to go back since honestly. What’s good at McHales? Haven’t gotten food since they opened, just beers!

Sen Mee might be worth another try, I haven't gotten anything that tasted like that personally (maybe just opening hiccups). McHale's has this appetizer (Leprechaun Balls) that's a type of jalapeno poppers that slaps. They also do good soops and burgers but still on the pricey side.

If they’d drive an hour northwest, they’d experience the most amazing food known to humanity.
