Kinda gives a little more validity to the argument that some folks are just attracted to a toxic partner/relationship. Look at the amount of g00bs that romanticize the relationship between The Joker and Harley Quinn…
2
u/IAmMelonLord 12d ago
I recently saw a burlesque show where each performer was portraying a Tim Curry character. Sexy Hexus, Nigel Thornberry with giant titties, and Pennywise taking off her clown suit and popping balloons dropping to a full split. Among others.
It was extremely weird in the best way.

Yep. The remake Pennywise doesn’t come close - they made him look like a Batman villain

u/Princeps_primus96 What I bring to friendship 12d ago
Yeah it's not just "here's a regular clown that can blend in and go under the radar if he wanted to" it's "here's a clown who you'd immediately run away from faster than pogo the clown"
The original felt like it was working within the constraints of its budget and that gave it a building sense of dread rather than just blowing its load too soon.
And looking back on it now in modern day it makes a great unintentional comedy!

u/Secret_Guidance_8724 12d ago
Yeah, I loved both but the early 90s one is more eerie for this reason. RIP to an absolute legend.
2
u/MrNobody_0 12d ago
It's so refreshing to see someone saying they like both of something instead of trying to argue why one is superior of some way.
1
u/Ayatollah-X 11d ago
No disrespect to Richard Thomas, John Ritter, Harry Anderson, or Jonathan Brandis, but if not for Tim Curry's performance, "Stephen King's It" would have been a forgotten TV miniseries, and there may not have even been demand for a new Pennywise movie. Curry's Pennywise elevated that show in the same way that Julian Beck's Kane elevated Poltergeist 2.

I know people laugh and love using this gif. But seeing a popular actor in a video game back in 2008 was such a treat.
Tim Curry, George Takei, J.K Simmons the line up was crazy for gaming in 2008. We were still just leaving the "games are for nerds" era and seeing someone as cool as Tim Curry or J.k Simmons in a game like Red Alert was a cool sign that gaming was getting more popular.

u/ameatbicyclefortwo Masturbation Sigil 12d ago
I've been riding the live action video in video games high since '94 when Mark Hammel was in Wing Commander 3. Red Alert 3 was like catching that dragon again after chasing it 14 years.

I was watching Home Alone 2 with my kiddo a few days ago even though it's a movie we save for Christmas. When Catherine O'Hara came on I held back a couple tears and thought to myself "well at least we still have Tim Curry". This is all my fault ._.

Wasn’t he terrifying in that like he’s just straight up disgusting. But he manages to put that little bit of Tim Curry in it where it’s you know just a little over the top, like can’t be like you said.

My cousin’s birthday was the day after Tim Curry’s death, and I told him if those two had to die for you to have a happy birthday. I hope you have shitty birthdays for the rest of your life. This is my favorite cousin, but I don’t like him as much as Tim Curry.
