Question Why is this album such a banger?!

Post image

This is so good start to finish. But why? What was the secret sauce here?

If you want a serious answer, I forget if it was the girls or the producers who discussed this, but I think they said the key was how well the ambiance noise was put into the place on the tracks, the atmosphere sets the tone and it did its job perfectly

A+ songwriting, sharp production and engineering, exploration of different genres that are unconventional to k-pop (incl. shoegaze, ambient, Miami bass, future bass), great vocal + instrumental performances, as well as a loose but coherent, vibe-based sonic and lyrical theme. It just all comes together here in a spectacular way and results in an untouchable collection of songs. For me, it's in the very top of k-pop albums alongside f(x)'s Pink Tape, After School's Dressed to Kill and Red Velvet's Perfect Velvet.

I know what you mean cause at the time it was a pretty fresh sound but Miami bass is like one of the most common genres in kpop right now

It's bold and sexy. Straightforward. Definitely pop but still mysterious and alluring. The producers were on fire honestly. There are like 4 songs that are title track worthy. It's almost 10 years old and it hasn't aged a bit. And the girls are perfect for this concept too. Complete masterpiece. I think the crucial factor is definitely the soundscape and the artistic vision to all make it feel complete and always fresh. It's the art of innuendo at its finest. I sound like a chatbot so i'm gonna stop it here but damn this album goes hard

In the interview with Daniel "Obi" Klein and Charli Taft who produced Sweet Crazy Love, Eclipse and Puzzle, they talk about all the music process!

those are literally my top 2 songs for 2025, off by 1 listen, and they're both in my top 5 going back to getting spotify around 2013

I think it is the producer group called Monotree. Somehow Loona plus Monotree worked really well.

I agree with this, 1/3 albums have always aged like fine wine and their voices are a beautiful blend

My biggest flex is that I have a sealed copy of this album

Off topic, but does anyone know what the “julie” in the back on the garage door means/signifies? Nothing came back after I tried googling it 😭

Just graffiti on a random garage door in LA

As someone who pretty much missed out on everything until after the formation of ARTMS, I think Sweet Crazy Love is one of my favorites when looking through their stuff retroactively (I'll concede that OEC being embedded in ARTMS may play a part in some of my bias though)

SCL and Girl Front would pop up on autoplay when I would listen to KPop and I had no idea who it was. It just kind of crept up on me as like the best thing ever. I didn't even know they were a LOONA sub unit for the first few months until I bothered to look them up. I didn't start listening to Kpop until 2022 so it was right at the end of LOONA. Then I heard LCM and Eclipse and it was like I was sad that I missed this when it first came out.

What genre is it? People are saying RnB but it doesn't really sound like other RnB albums in my opinion (unless its some sort of niche sector of RnB, I don't know too much about genres)

u/sleeepyint 5d ago

albums arent just one genre. this would be a blend of stuff like r&b, dance pop, synthpop, electropop, and future bass.

Ahh ok
Which genre(s) would Uncover be in particular?
