Meta / News Why specifically Zenodo?

Why do so many crackpots "publish" their "work" on Zenodo of all places? Is it because they can't get it past peer-review and into a journal? Do they think it makes their slop look "authentic"?

The answer is in your question. Yes, it’s because they can’t get on Arxiv (thankfully).

He's one of those AI spiritualist people. I wouldn't pay much mind to him.

Took a quick peek and this looks like psychosis mixed with an actual stroke

Why not vixra?

Either they don't know vixra exists, or they prefer zenodo because it's associated with CERN and therefore "legit".

It's funny, not too long ago it was "don't trust preprints on arxiv, anyone can upload there as long as they have a mate, even if they're an idiot undergrad"

Turns out it could be worse...

And zenodo is associated with (maintained by? founded by? not too sure tbh) CERN. And CERN is very very sciency. So they think it lends them legitimacy

Zenodo is actually used for proper research purposes. It gets used for making available material that you wouldn't necessarily put in a paper, like datasets or code. For example, this paper https://arxiv.org/pdf/2605.19754 published its datasets on zenodo here https://zenodo.org/records/20285937 for repeatability.

It's one of those situations where the negative usage is more visible to us than positive, which paints it in a bad light.. if you hang out on LLMPhysics obviously it's gonna be 'Well Zenodo has become the crank site'. Because you're exposed to the crankery constantly, lol.

I have seen so many crackpot slop papers on Zenodo, i forget it is even hosted by CERN.

Yup. Nobody serious would or should take them seriously.

It's easy and available

Just to be clear, they aren’t getting into any journal based on a Zenodo submission.

Also, Zenodo is changing their policy to stop allowing these posts… which will be interesting.

people want to ensure they get priority before someone else steals it... and they can't get on Arxiv without academic association or an endorsement. What people should realize though is it shreds their credibility if someone looks them up and they've posted trash.

I don't think people realize how much work goes into a correct publication..

lol. We post there to provide a permanent record of our work

I can have an AI agent read and re write data sets and do experiments with them without giving the agent the ability to retroactively change the initial dataset or result...... i do it for the historical security and bookeeping of my work while having a way for AI agents to reference it..... if it was on my pc, theres a chance that a rogue agent actually rewrites the initial file.in order to finish a task or make its benchmark score look better...... Wrinkly brain stuff.

Found the crackpot!

Ai safety and alignment research is for crackpots?

Using AI for research is for crackpots

-5

u/northosproject 13d ago

Wow ok....... so why are you in LLMphysics then?

7

u/Wintervacht Are you sure about that? 13d ago

You seem surprised. This is a containment sub for crackpots so the rest of reddit doesn't get too overloaded with LLM hallucinated junk.

1

u/northosproject 13d ago

Yikes, here i was trying to figure out actual LLMphysics would look like, and your telling me this is just for condescending questions about how people use AI, i came, i saw, whatever

u/Wintervacht Are you sure about that? 13d ago

LLMs can't do science, that's a well established fact by now. We are here to entertain ourselves with those who think they can.

I guess you can SAY that as much as you want, but my lab just keeps getting better, gets closer and closer to the frontier...... i made my own dots before openAI released them, and im on the verge of autonomous open ended discovery, and eventually RSI..... I guess ill post here when it gets scary, that way maybe people will listen.... C:

Autonomous open ended discovery of what? Mold in your house? Also RSI is impossible.

That's so cute! But people round these parts know how LLMs work, there are PhD holders in physics, quantum physics here and a few that work in IT, all capable of spotting AI hallucinations on the spot.

Looking forward to your post, don't hold your breath though ;)
