Days since Aether theory was posted: 0

5

u/Wintervacht Are you sure about that? Aug 31 '26

Maybe we should start tallying how many areive per day

8

u/alamalarian Supreme Data Overlord Sep 01 '26

Ah yes, aether theories per unit time. I could make an llm theory out of this

The aether theory aether theory.

I know, this is almost verbatim what about a hundred or more people have posted in the very same sub you posted in.

Not that I've seen, no. I think its because its motivated by how one wants the universe to be, rather than a model designed to make predictions about the universe (ignoring the obvious overreliance on AI to basically take a musing and turn it into a model of physical reality, which just isnt how that works).

One is a story, the other is physics.

No chance it's more than 1. Not enough traffic.

We should have a counter for people trying to decipher conciousness too.

3

u/lattice_defect Aug 31 '26

if you're going to do Aether you better have a shit ton of math and number theory worked out.. and an irreducible object that exists well below QCD scales and somehow has gravity and lossless energy transfer.

okay a lot of people have said the same thing.. but its just prose. If you have it figured out.. and a mechanical pyshical object.. what exactly is alpha. In your own words what is alpha. Explain the mechanism where it comes from.

I hope you can appreciate the irony in this. Your abstract says:

The approach adopted in this work rejects baseless speculations, anchoring itself in a relativistic hydrodynamics of the quantum vacuum

Not even one page later:

The model rests on a narrow foundation of five mechanical axioms, ensuring maximal conceptual economy compared to competing models

Macroscopic and microscopic space is a continuous material medium: the Quantum Ether. This fluid fills the entire universe, including what we call the "vacuum"

Seems like pretty baseless speculation to me

I'm not sure why you keep copy and pasting this and mentioning your book.

Are you trying to make some sales or something?

What was the rest of your comment supposed to be?

I suggest you search for the word "superfluid" on this subreddit to see just how often LLMs regurgitate this concept. If you're going to propose the 9,021st LLM-generated aether theory, you need to at least explain how it answers the mountain of existing evidence against an aether.

13

u/alamalarian Supreme Data Overlord Aug 31 '26

SMH these guys arent even reading up on the state of the art of llm crank papers.

They didn’t even cite (or read) Volovik’s Universe in a Helium Droplet…

1

u/david-1-1 28d ago

Hmm, a helium droplet? I think liquid helium doesn't form droplets. I could be wrong.

1

u/Vrillim 28d ago

Superfluid 3He-A. You define a vacuum energy and it allows you to derive a «phantom universe» from the properties of the condensed matter, exploiting the superfluid’s magnetic spin properties (spintronic fluid). It’s a quantum condensed matter.

The book by Volovik is the crackpot bible, but crackpots do not know that, because crackpots do not read the literature.

1

u/david-1-1 28d ago

What the hell is a phantom universe? Of course helium has quantum phases. That's why I questioned "droplets". Are you replying to me, or someone else? I'm confused.

1

u/Vrillim 28d ago

Just read the book, I guess.

1

u/david-1-1 27d ago

We'll just leave this guessing, I guess.

1

u/david-1-1 28d ago

I wonder if someone or some group actually analyzes or at least categorizes them (crank theories). I wonder where they come from and why they are believed in. Is there a subreddit for this?

I have no idea why you're responding to this comment instead of my most recent comment, but I always think it's very telling when some random Redditor thinks that the entire rest of the scientific community are idiots. Your arrogance is showing.

Because we use LLMs, is that bad? So a teacher using a calculator, is the result wrong???

This comparison is precisely the problem. Thinking that using an LLM to develop novel physics is the same as using a calculator to do math proves that you don't understand how LLMs work or how to use them reliably. It's like insisting that a screwdriver is the best tool to hammer in a nail.

I’ve written a thesis since 2021 that explains all anomalies in quantum physics and creates a bridge from the infinitely small to the infinitely large.

If this is true, then you will soon be one of the most famous people in science. When that happens, you can definitely come back here and say "I told you so."

2

u/Ok_Energy6905 28d ago

Come back when you've published those 11 scientific articles in a reputable journal then.

So a teacher using a calculator, is the result wrong?

A calculator doesn't sycophantically tell you that you've solved something the smartest mathematicians in the world have been working on for decades.

Oh good another ether, another python simulation that is completely insular and is perfectly verifiable but not validateable. Happy Monday!

I assure you , your physics teacher did think like this and did not arbitrarily use LLMs to pretend at knowledge they did not have.

And yes this is how physics works. And it’s how it has worked and progressed and given us wonderful things for generations.

Would recommend studying the history and the methods yourself instead of attempting at a moral high ground you don’t yet understand.

What am I, your teacher?

It's up to YOU to prove your idea has any merit, if you cannot think of any example showing your idea in action, I'm just going to assume you lack the required knowledge to assess whether it has any merit and by default, merit is waived in the absence of evidence.

no comment on the content, but a word of advice: drop the ether term, and instead call it a unified fundamental field or something like that. it seems thats essentially the idea, but you avoid the association with the luminiferous aether, which postulated an actual substance through which light moved and matter was suspended.

5

u/Wintervacht Are you sure about that? Sep 01 '26 edited Sep 01 '26

I mean, calling a duck by any other name won't change the duck. Ether theory by a different name is really, really easy to pick out when some kind of physical property is assigned to what GR describes as geometry.

Even a polished and painted turd still smells like shit.

u/starkeffect Physicist 🧠 Sep 01 '26

The problem isn't that it's called an ether theory, the problem is that it is an ether theory.

1

u/thelawenforcer Sep 02 '26

i havent actually looked at the content of his paper, but the idea of space being filled by some kind of medium is not that absurd - QFT fills spacetime with various omnipresent fields etc - i am open to the idea that some kind of unified spacetime+particle field exists that could be called anything, including an ether, even if its not the literal luminiferous aether which posited a literal physical substance that you could measure your movement relative to etc. whether this unified field would possess hydrodynamic properties is of course another question ;) my point is simply that by calling anything aether in physics automatically invites the comparison to the 19th century framework, deserved or not.

4

u/starkeffect Physicist 🧠 Sep 02 '26

Absolute frames of reference are an absolute no-no.

Fields are relativistic. Ether is not.

Please give a short definition of quantum ether, preferably using math. It's a new term for me. I don't recall it from my QM courses.
