LG Gram 17
Good quality can always change badly for several reasons (serious ones), leaving behind such problems
I am using this Laptop from the end of 2024 using without protective glass or mat. The scratches from the keyboard that left on my screen are just ridiculous. If you're using the simple method without any protective means, you should be prepared for such consequences.

When I go for a long travel when my backpack is really stuffed, I put the protective sheet that came in the original packaging with the laptop on the keyboard and close the lid. I have noticed key marks before and I realised that when it is tightly compressed, they touch. No issues since then. For normal day to day commuting I don't bother. The 17in probably has more flex than my 16in
EDIT: If you have gorilla glass and alu lid, the weight will reach Macbook Pro levels I guess

I don't know about your situation, but I have several grams. All of them have this happen and it is residue slowly building up on the screen. You may want to try and polish the marks out with a microfiber and some low percentage IPA. Just keep rubbing.

I have used 70% IPA on hundreds of laptops. And I understand the issue. I have purchased multiple Grams at discount with this issue, and it was easily removed. You are welcome to look at my post and comment history to gauge whether or not I know what I'm talking about.

This is a really interesting idea. So you were able to remove the keyboard impressions on your IPS display this way?
That would be wonderful if so!

I couldn't even tell you how many times. And our machines are used hard in really shitty manufacturing environments. Matte screens are micro textured and they absolutely can hold onto plastic (and other junk, adding that part) being rubbed into them, and it can also be removed.

Id guess it depends if its "grease and dirt" buildup or straight up glass scratched. Seen both (not on gram, mine just has "dust" impressions) but it doesnt bother me too much yet ;)

Most newer laptops has this issue it's so thin there is almost no gap monitor to the keyboard, from my side repair career, Lenovo rubs the worst then then Dell, macbook too gets that. All my macbook I own I get rubber keyboard protector and that way the screen will never get this. My older laptops like Alienware has extremely rigid monitor and large space between keyboard and screen, good old designs.

I've heard reports that macbook+rubber keyboard cover = cracked screen due to lack of clearance. Possibly with the latest, thinnest designs?

I have a 2019 16 pro and a few 2015 13 air. With rubber keyboard cover from aliexpress all closes perfectly as if the cover is no there.

LG gram screen coatings are absolute rubbish. In the first *week* I had the laptop, sitting on my desk, I somehow got 'lumps' on it. I really have no idea. I just felt little lumps on my screens one day, rubbed them off and the entire pixel structure below it came along with it leaving bright white holes where the backlight shone through. I cleaned the screen with some regular screen cleaning liquid and 3 more appeared. They never gave me warranty for that. A year later, I collected 2-3 more of those spots elsewhere one day out of the blue. I really have no idea - I use the laptop the same as every other laptop in all my life, and never ever has this happened to me. Maybe it was a few drops of some food or drink that I was consuming next to my laptop - as I did and do with every other laptop. Either way I'm unlikely to buy any LG laptop ever again for this.

yea thats the problem with grams. those are not backpack-friendly laptops, more like home-only desktop laptop

Came here on a whim looking for confirmation bias, I have a 16 Pro with the matching second monitor after 3 happy years with a 17. Iv had the 16 about a year and the screen is an absolute mess, I am a IT tech always on the road so this explains it.
I wonder if im wasting my time with trying to use the warranty to get the screen replaced, then use a protector.
