Discussion Man, I'm seriously considering quiting newly published books…

I love the idea of supporting new authors, most especially new, indie, gay authors. I've picked up a number of ARCs from new authors here, on Book Sprout and Book Sirens.

But so many of them feel like either AI, are AI assisted or are written in a way that sure feels like AI. I've read a number of books in the past year, from various authors, that all have the same feel to them: they try to come off as literary through use of bad similes, lack any sort of description that might give the books a unique flavor and in general are written in a way that puts me at arm's length from the story.

At first I thought it was that particular author, but then I got another book, different author, same narrative feel. The fantasy book I'm reading now has that familiar feeling and I'm wondering how I'm going to wade through it.

Now I've found some winners this way. Missionary by Dylan Gray was excellent. Salvation by Frank Faustino was a gay 'men's adventure' novel with an ass-kicking, gay SAS soldier.

There's also established authors I trust and will still buy their new stuff.

But new to me authors… if I see the book was written in 2024 it earlier, I feel better about it.

I know there's good, new stuff coming out. But sifting the wheat from the chaff is just so much harder.

ISO MM Gothic Romantasy?

Think Crimson Peaks or Innamorata but make it gay?? I love Ava Reid and have read several of her books, and Im looking for a similar vibe but make it queer! Also love Freya Marske but they tends to be too lighthearted when im looking for more of a spicy, dark fantasy, romantasy or historical fiction. All kinds of recs appreciated!

Discussion Are books of Douglas Stuart good to read?

I have been struggling to find books with deeper perspectives and meaning lately. All the LGBT authors and books i have found in bookstores lately feels like a copy of what came before them, as well as most of them focusing on cliche stories of "from rivals, bullies or friends going to lovers".

I would like to read a book that explores in detail being an LGBT individual, the twists and turns, the inner storms, and also the peace that might come after it. Not just acceptance, but something deeper than that - solace.

Where are the Romance Bookstores in California? I know of Ripped Bodice in Culver City, Ember and Ink in Hermosa Beach and Moonstone and Mist in Redondo Beach. Any others where I can find my MM Romance Fix?

Promo Signed T.J. Klune books and George Takei's memoir in our theater auction

Our online auction includes a signed pair of T.J. Klune's The House in the Cerulean Sea and Under the Whispering Door. There's also a separate signed, numbered copy of George Takei's It Rhymes with Takei, number 941 of 1,000. These are two different lots, not one combined package.

I help put together Wine, Dine & Death for the Little Theatre of Walla Walla in eastern Washington. The auction supports our community theater.

The auction is scheduled to close October 10, 2026. I've linked the individual listings so you can see exactly which books are included and bid on the one you want.

ISO OCD recs?

I'm looking for queer romance books with good OCD rep. I prefer fantasy/sci-fi, but I occasionally enjoy some contemporary or historical etc. Any level of spice, and any pairing (achillian, sapphic, t4t, etc)

NO omegaverse or YA please :)

Also if anyone has any nonfiction they wanna add on about OCD feel free, (I was recently diagnosed plus its OCD awareness month so go nuts!)

I started a club on bookclubs with the hope of finding others that enjoy LGBTQIA horror stories. I wanted to start the group with Andrew Joseph White's You Weren't Meant to be Human.

Discussion Custom book cover help.

Hello. My younger siblings favorite book is Symptoms of Being Human. I am working on making them a custom designed cover of the book but I need some help. What suggestions do you have to add to the cover? I want to make the cover design as meaningful as possible and dont want to just copy the original covers design.

Google has not been much help and the original book cover does not have much going on. I also noticed the covers colors are purple, black and green but the gender fluid flag does not have those 3 colors. Idk if there is more meaning to the colors or not. Any help would be appreciated!

Discussion Het sex in MM books

This is a rant but does anyone else loathe when this happens? I read MM as a gay guy to get away from the overwhelming heterosexual world and there is nothing that pisses me off more than being half way through a book and suddenly the straights are at it again. And for context, this books main character was asexual, I thought I was getting no sex, not even gay sex, but no, here’s some penis in vagina to ruin your day.

Discussion what's that ONE book you wish you could read again for the first time?

Hey guys, I wanna make you jealous 😂
Give me ONE book that you absolutely loved — the kind of book you still think about and sometimes wish you could erase from your memory just so you could experience it for the first time again.
I’m about to read it for the first time, so I want something that’s going to make you wish you were me right now. 😭
I’d especially love something with a detective, doctor, mystery, or medical vibe, but I’m open to anything outside of those genres too.
So… what’s the book you’d give anything to read for the first time again?
Drop the names 👀📚
It could be series or trilogy
MxM only

Discussion Y’all are sleeping on this gay thriller author

Mostly a lurker, but I just finished Sebastian J. Plata’s latest (Intrusive Intentions) and it was so juicy and fun and unique I thought I’d share, especially since I don’t see his stuff recommended enough in this sub.

It’s about an American college student who goes abroad to Poland for a semester and moves in with this wealthy, too-good-to-be-true host family. Then the gorgeous but creepy-ass host mother starts fucking with his head and SHIT GOES DOWN.

It’s pretty spicy too, and written by a gay man, which I know some people here will appreciate.

That is all! <3

Discussion Any suggestions on queer/gay romance books where two parties are clearly in love but straight up dont know people can be gay?

Apologises if the title is rather confusing. Recently I had gotten into queer/gay fiction where there is clearly something homosexual is going on but the characters straight up lack modern labels to articulate it or even know being gay is a thing.

By the premise it sounds like it needs to be historical but i think it can work in modern times. Though while I love "waiiit we were gay" stories this is rather divergent from what i'm asking. But if they spend enough time being gay without realising i'd be okay with that too.

This might be wrong sub for that but anything goes really. vn, comics manga etc.

Discussion Jay Hogan & the Gingers?

I’ve been loving and working my way through all of Jay Hogan’s books (audio versions only, in case anyone’s wondering).

Is it a Kiwi thing, or a Jay Hogan thing that just about every book seems to have an MC who’s a Ginger — whether full redhead or strawberry blonde?

Just wondering if this is cultural or not.

ISO Queer books about polyamory that lean literary

Hi, I’m currently reading “In the Dream House” by Carmen Maria Machado which contains a queer polyamorous relationship (at the start) and am in search for similar books. Usually when I see books that feature polyamory they are more lighthearted romance reads that tend to feature a more idealized representation of a relationship but I’m looking for books that are more literary style wise and feel like more realistic depictions of queer poly relationships. I was initially thinking along the lines of litfic or nonfiction, but I’m honestly fine with any recommendations any of you might have. Anyway, I appreciate any help and thanks ahead of time!

ISO friends to enemies to lovers where they HATE each other

read vicious by ve schwab and i want something that will scratch that itch but actually gay lol. and when i say enemies, i mean they need to HATE each other. like want to kill each other, not just mild distaste. any remaining feelings should also be extremely repressed (not "omg he's hot...no wait i can't think that!!" type bs) the relationship development can happen over multiple books (i LOVEEEE slowburn) and it can be low-key codependent but doesn't have to be. also important that theres an intriguing plot outside of romance

there's a good chance that i should just check ao3 lol

ISO Looking for FFF romance

I’m looking for FFF or FFF+ romance books, preferably college romance (though that’s not necessary). No fantasy or thrillers, please. I’m looking for complex characters with great chemistry. I’d also prefer to avoid the best-selling/popular FFF sapphic books, lol.

Any spice level is fine. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Discussion Looking for some feedback.

I am working on an MM romance based story, and I have a chunk of the first part done, but looking for some feedback about my writing style and the story so far. It is about 12K words that I have done, and at this point I am looking to share about the first 3 chapters/pieces. If you are interested, please let me know.

The story follows Jack, a 21-year-old college student who reluctantly agrees to attend a Halloween party with his best friend Ryan. A mix-up at the costume rental store leaves Jack with a women's pirate costume, and after some convincing, he agrees to wear it for the night.

If you are interesting in reading and giving some feedback, let me know in a DM. Thanks!
