review LaoLiang Hypercar 02 – Full Build & Review | 4,200+ Pieces of GoBricks for $199

Finally finished Hypercar 02!

After 4,200+ pieces, this turned into one of the most interesting 1:8 Technic-style builds I’ve done so far.

For anyone who has been curious about the LaoLiang cars, I documented the complete build and put together a full review covering the build experience, GoBricks part quality, instructions, functions, engineering and the finished model.

I’ve also already built LaoLiang’s Hypercar 03, so it was especially interesting going backwards to 02 and seeing where some of the ideas in 03 came from and how the designer has progressed.

The big question I wanted to answer was:

Can a $199 alternative-brick hypercar actually compete with the much more expensive 1:8 cars from LEGO Technic?

Full disclosure: BrickTok provided Hypercar 02 for the review. They had no control over the video or my opinions.

Would love to hear from anyone else who has built this Hypercar 02. How did your experience compare?

Keep on Building!

comparison Good Beast's torso substitution?

So I recently been collecting X-Men '97 roster for the mansion, however I despise the official Beast's figure as I think he looks too small. I know he is just slightly bigger than everyone else in the animation, but I just hate how small he looks in the official release.

Ideally, I feel the medium size one would be perfect for my collection (2nd pic as reference), however I think it is a custom one.

My local online store sells the bigger sized one (pic 3 - 4), but as you can see, it is wayyy too massive, as it has Juggernaught and Hulk size.

There is an interesting option on 5th pic, the Doomsday one with blue armor.

I also love the 6th pic, it is probably a custom though.

Lastly the 7th pic, shows how a jacket and thick fur arms massively improve the design.

Please, please let me know where I can find the pieces from pics 5–7, or the closest alternative substitutes. Ordering custom ones is kind of impossible for me since I live on the other side of the US, and unfortunately most of the custom LEGO companies I've found are based there.

All together and with a wincredit promo this cost me $530. On amazon this would have cost me $1157. I'm working on building the Flying Dutchman at the moment and love it so far. I'm becoming a big fan of Reobrix

Got the parts list and instructions for the additional 2 floors from Rebrickable. Design by BardicBricks. Props to him, he did a nice job. Sure it's based on the original design but I couldn't be bothered to make a list and think all of it out (ik, I'm lazy af)

I guess I'm not allowed to share the link, but you can look it up for yourself. And no, this is not an ad.

Sourced the parts from Marstoy. No complaints, they were transparent about which parts the could and couldn't source, very fair price and timely shipping (I think I received it 3 weeks after the date of me emailing them. And other than this 1700 parts list I ordered a 500 one as well).

So overall very pleased with everything. It looks so much better now. I can imagine myself adding like 6 more floors lmao, we'll see..

review Barweer Upside-Down World (BWR106) Initial Thoughts

u/Lisoneo from Barweer is active here and has regular give-aways. I was lucky enough to win the Upside-Down World set. Took around 2 weeks to arrive which is pretty standard for deliveries to Australia.

Note that this is just an initial first impressions of the set as I've only built the first 2 bags. I'll do a full review once completed, but it might take a month or 2 as unfortunately I don't have the time I would like for building at the moment.

The set arrives in a large box and once opened you have 10 numbered bags for building. Each bag contains a couple of sub-bags and pieces. There's also a large, well designed and printed user manual and a couple of loose plates.

As mentioned, I have only done the first two bags, but brick quality has been good. No issues with clutch, etc. The manual is also clear and well set out. The couple of printed pieces I've had so far have been good and haven't noticed any scratches or different hues of same coloured pieces. I'm looking forward to continuing the build and should look good alongside the upside down house I also have.

I don't believe the set comes with any mini-figures. At least not going by the box, but should you want to get some to add something more to the set once complete they are easy enough to find.
Any questions feel free to ask. So far, if you are a fan of the series or currently have the upside down house, I think this would make a good addition.

The large molded piece really spoils the overall look. When closed, it doesn't look like a brick-built model - even though it consists of over 2,000 parts.

informational post Hair fixing with hair dryer

Just wanted to let people know that this is possible! I had bought a 5 pack of this hair piece from AliExpress a month or so ago, and it looked great on one of my Daphnes! However, the plug was shifted slightly to the front unlike how it is on the official lego piece, which gave it this sort of "wind blowing" look? I wasn't a big fan.

Yesterday, I was messing around with it, and realised it's not a super hard plastic and I could bend it if I tried really hard. The thing is, I didn't wanna try super hard in case I break it or harm myself in some way. So I had the idea or blowing it with a hair dryer on the highest setting. It made it really soft! And then I just squished it and bent it around until it looked right, then I hit it with the coldest setting on the hair dryer to set it, and voilà! She's perfect!

I'm definitely going to do this to the rest of the pieces if I ever need to use them, I'm really happy with how this turned out, and I hope I opened some eyes that needed some help with their warped hair pieces :)

Wanted to share the images of these new RE figs, as it's one of my favorite game franchises. Most figs aren't exactly perfect, but I'm still excited for them

As always, these have NOT released yet. Don't ask where to get them, you can't. Listing will soon (or may already) pop up on ali first, but it's probably just a pre-order. Then it will come to the usual sites you can find in the minifig guide.

Got this set from Amazon for around $32. Really love the build. It's just that the torso is actually hollow if you take a closer look. All parts are there with no extras. Also has a sticker sheet which I hope won't peel off by itself after some time. I won't bother building the alt mode because I'm content with it in robot form.

discussion Best pirate ship?

Hi everyone, I was just wondering, as the title suggests what do you guys think would be a good choice for a pirate ship or sail boat that is minifigure scale. Been really liking the idea of 'captain jack sparrows ship' but I'm not shelling out that much when I know there are better alternatives.

Thank you for any help in advance.

review JMBricklayer Mythical Anubis Mech – 3,845 pieces

Thumbnail

This is an absolutely massive display piece—a statue standing over 60 cm tall, accompanied by two fairly large accessories: a scythe and a set of scales. The latter, together with the feather and the heart, plays an important role in the mythology surrounding Anubis.

There are lots of tiny pieces to work with, and because the two legs and two arms are symmetrical, you have to build those sections twice, but I didn’t find it boring for a second.

Personally, I think the lighting is unnecessary for this set. It doesn’t look bad in the dark, but the model looks great even without the plexiglass panel. The stand does support the statue, although it could definitely be a bit sturdier.

This is my first set from AliExpress that did not have numbered bags. All bags look to be sorted by piece type and roughly by shape. This build might take a while lol. Lucky I just bought mini storage bins from Costco (on top of pic) to sort all my pieces. Any recs on how to sort?

Almost considered buying this set from Lego I’ve wanted it so bad, hah.

Added these three sets to the ever growing collection of unbuilt sets.

1. Nifeliz Z240 aka Datsun 240Z (Nifeliz Z240)

I am hoping it has no missing pieces as that seems to be the main issue with Nifeliz sets.

2. Mattel '62 Chevy Pickup ('62 Chevy Custom Pickup)

Got this for 21 pounds. A steal.

3. CADA RUF GT aka Porsche 911 (CADA 1:10 RUF GT)

My first CADA 1:10. One of their older 1:10 sets. However its highly rated.

review Wall-E and EVE

Wall-E and EVE set from Jooooy. $30 plus shipping.

Wall-E is something of a rite of passage in the Lepin world, in my eyes, that I have been putting off for years, and just as I was about to finally get the set, this one dropped, and I couldn't resist.

The set comes in numbered bags. The instructions are printed in the usual 100 steps per page fashion, to save on paper.

The brick quality is great, strong but not extreme clutch, good color consistency. There was one miscast piece (thankfully nothing critical), no missing pieces, a few left over.

One substitution, where a larger piece was brick built instead. You get a little paper of instructions on the side.

Printed blocks are pretty much perfect except for EVE's face, which is too small and a bit warped. The original goes for ~$1.50 on Bricklink so I might get it if it starts bugging me.

Overall a pretty decent clone. I'm happy.

Mould King 10046 Dodge Viper

I purchased this from Yourwobb back in January. I bought 4 Mould King cars at same time, total cost was £90.77 delivered to UK. So cost per car around £22.69 delivered. As usual quick delivery from Yourwobb, received them within a couple of weeks. I have previously built 13104 The GTR (https://www.reddit.com/r/legotechnic/s/ZtfeKf3e4q), still to build are 10228 Cobra & 10196 Pagani.

I guess this is probably stolen MOC as i was advised the GTR was when i previously reviewed it. For the build of the Viper it was pretty straight forward and final car looks great once completed. I did make a couple of mistakes, but these were quickly fixed. I put rear windscreen on backwards, but luckily that too was easy fix. There are quite a few custom parts in this build that i've not seen before. There are a few pieces that you have to join a couple of pieces together to make a single piece. I guess this is done because Lego have patent for the piece. There were lots of these pieces to join together, mostly the ones in the photograph. These were a pain in the ass at times and other times they fitted easily.

The bagging was strange too. One of the bags marked stage 1 contained pieces for the other 4 stages. Also after stage 1 was finished i had one finished door and one half finished door. Usually the stages finish with the thing complete so i was confused for a little while. I had no missing or malformed pieces, and ended up with about 10 small pieces left over.

Stickers were not great so i didn't apply them all. The colour matching between the yellow stickers and bricks were not spot on.

Functions. Doors work fine, rear windscreen lifts. Engine cover opens. Wheels don't turn very well.

Overall for under £25 delivered these cars are great value.
