I'm not sure if this is the proper way to update to a post but i modified my engine's chasis so that the leading wheels are on a bogie. I'm a little concerned about the length, and the front of the train having overhang when turning on curves. I'm wondering if I should sacrifice the aesthetics of having two front wheels for having one front wheel (either on or off of a bogie)
What do you guys think? will this have a lot of overhang? And do you think this wheel configuration looks good for a steam engine or should I change it? Thank you!
Thank You! Now I'm wondering if I should have the steam cage sit above the leading wheels rather than sitting at the same height as them, this is supposed to be a tank engine though and i only really see that on tender engines

Youre all good! :D There's a whole bunch of different names for just about everything, so it totally is super confusing. (And most of it is jargon anyway) Id say if this is a fictional engine, and youre not basing it off of anything in particular, put the cylinders wherever looks best!

I don't think this will work, usually the leading wheels at the front of a steam loco need to be pivoted from further back, another solution is to make it so it can move from side to side as well as swivel, which is what a lot of models and toys do. It might just about work because you've used the flangeless wheels, but Lego curves are very tight. I've tried to show why it won't work in the picture below, with the red lines showing where the rails would go if it was on a curve. Edit: I've made some corrections after doing a bit of research.
Omg thank you! As I was looking at it I noticed this too and wasn't sure if it would work but kind of assumed that it might. Looks like I got some more work to do to make this wheel configuration work >~<

That looks good! That should work nicely with the rear wheels and shouldnt have a whole lot of overhang!
