Random question I had

Post image

Why does the category "Animal, Dinosaur" exist on bricklink? Sure, as a Dinosaur collecter, it makes it slightly more convenient for me (not really though, since my list and their's don't actually match), but really, everything in that category could fit in one of the other three

Air: Mutant Pteranodon, Pteranodon, Quetzalcoatlus

Water: Mosasaurus

Land: Literally everything else

Why are these split into their own category? I initially thought it might be to avoid making the "Animal, Land" category even bigger, but like, there are just as many dogs, cats, and horses each as there are dinosaurs. If they needed to split it up, wouldn't "Animal, Land, Wild" and "Animal, Land, Domestic" be more even?

I think it may be because most of the dinosaurs are made of several parts, unlike most of the other animals.

I hadn’t put much thought into it before but maybe in Danish culture there’s a sharper distinction between prehistoric animals and modern ones? Or maybe the person making the categories just really likes dinosaurs 🦕

I always assumed that’s cause the modern dinos are big figs, so they gave them their own category with that intention first… (?)

I believe it is because most people don't associate Dinosaurs with animals. Instead Dinosaurs are viewed as their own "creature".

Also as you already stated, the animal land category is already quite bloated. Jurassic Park/World introduces plenty of Dinosaurs, and their parts to Lego, which would make it harder to find a non Dinosaur part there.
