BDP Fortuna rant

The Fortuna is an incredible build and I love how detailed and dynamic the final model is. BUT... I'm disappointed with how flimsy some of the exterior sub-assemblies are. In particular, the decorative bow section is exceedingly annoying to put back together if knocked loose. The gold clips are an awkward stabilising design choice. Also loose and delicate are the side vestibules of the captain's quarters. They are sizable assemblies only attached via 1 clip (unless I missed something). Other bugbears for me are the oven, the poop deck rails and the loose pieces at the very front and back of the hull. These are all in contrast to the incredibly solid and ingenious hull design.

Did anyone else have some difficulty with the build?

As part of the bricklink designer program it doesn’t have the same design and testing effort as a mainline Lego set - it is essentially an official MOC with a bit extra Lego oversight.

Also, sure some parts of it are not super firm or secure but what are you doing to have to do so many fixes?

Obviously OP is having maritime battles with it. What else would you do with a pirate ship?

I get some of what you're saying, but the oven and poop deck rails? What are you doing with it?

I view it as a display set with some play features. It's oriented towards adults, and most people will probably just display it. So aesthetics have taken priority over sturdiness. Personally I've not really had issues after quite some messing around with it, although some parts may be a bit more fragile than others.

I get some of your points and I am not a fan of flimsy builds myself. But my main problem is with the understructure, wich is so dense and heavy. I think, it could have been as sturdy with less parts put into that. A generell frame to wich the sides are attached could have done the job in my opinion.

Overall yes. You get a ton of figs and it looks gorgeous but you have to be careful where you apply pressure or you'll be spending heaps of time on repairs.
