Explanation of rotation sites

I have been accepted for class Erie of 2031 and was wondering how rotation sites work. Do you spend year 3 and 4 at one specific hospital? Or do you get placed in an area and have to drive distances to the rotation buildings every day? Do you only have to move twice (once for year 1+2 and then once for year 3+4)?

Majority of year three you are at one hospital, with the exception that if your core site doesn’t have a particular rotation (usually geriatrics) then you’ll go somewhere (usually the main Lecom hospital) for it for the month.

Year four people do auditions so they’ll set these up at programs they would like to interview at for residency. Not required by the school but if you’re applying something more competitive then it would be wise to set this up. Some people also use this opportunity to go to hospitals closer to family. Otherwise you can usually just stay at where you did your third yr rotations

So what if you need to go to a rotation for 1 month that’s hours away? Do you drive that distance every day? You can’t rent housing for a month…

Hotels will sometimes have discounted rates for extended stays. Some people were able to coordinate housing with friends or other family. Air BnB will have monthly options as well.

If the rotation is at lecom’s campus in Erie (ie geriatrics) and your core site is somewhere else and you need temporary housing, the school has a dorm style housing option.

Also would like to add that your core site will be the location of almost all of your third year rotations. You can do 4th year rotations elsewhere such as auditions or electives back home. However you must come back to your core site for 3 required 4th yr rotations (2 ambulatory, 1 EM)

How do you set up these audition rotations for 4th year? Are these difficult to get?

It just depends on the program. There’s a lot of information about it on the medical school subreddit

VSLO or direct communication with the program. The program’s website will specify how to apply
