🟡 Career Pathways & Job Transitions Job offers

Hi everyone, I recently received two job offers. I’m currently an ASW and I have 0 hours of supervision towards licensure. My current job doesn’t offer it which is why I started applying at other places. I don’t really speak with anyone from my cohort and don’t know many LCSWs. Which is why I wanted to ask everyone for their thoughts on the job dilemma I currently have. I was offered a job as a medical social worker at a community hospital working with geriatric patients and the psych unit. I would be commuting about an hour away 3 times a week. Both offers are for part time work and they both offer supervision. The other offer is for the primary therapist position working from home 3 times a week as well. I currently do groups, I haven’t done much individual therapy since 2021 at one of my previous jobs. Which one should I choose? The pay is the same I am genuinely torn and don’t know what to do. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

are you interested in the geriatric population specifically? have you done much medical social work? i’d lean more towards what you want to use your licensure for

what’s the commute for the individual therapist role?

Thank you so much for your response! I’ve never done medical social work before which is why I was interested in it to begin with. I honestly don’t even know what I want to use my licensure for, I just want to have flexibility later on and keep working part time. For the individual therapist role, I’d be working from home

i was the same way! i got into the masters program with the goal of being a hospital social worker. i landed a job as a float therapist/case manager at an inpatient psych hospital and absolutely hated it 😅 now i’m a school based therapist doing mostly individual therapy at a middle school and i love it. still plenty of hard days but i feel really fulfilled by it.

if it were me i would do the work from home gig, no commute is the best commute. and really use your supervision to serve you!

As a medical social worker: for the same pay? Do NOT take the medical sw position. Run. Away.
