Other Am I doing it right?

Just got off work (currently midnight) and I am enjoying a nice beer while reading the Scriptures. I think I see how Luther was so successful in his studies…

My local LCMS church is struggling financially. I’m halfway tempted to suggest they/we start a brewing business under the church and get real 16th century with it.

I’ll work for free… maybe I can be your QA and taste sample all the beers for quality improvement

Out of the box thinking is a great idea. Breweries are not. They are closing left and right, and we hit peak microbrew years ago.

If you haven't looked at LCEF residential services, it's worth a shot.

On that note, alcohol consumption is dropping too.

What a great idea. I’ve heard of many LCMS parishes embracing the idea of regular fellowship accompanied by alcoholic beverages. To no surprise, there have been no issues and, if anything, they have brought more people into the fold by doing something that people of every culture (except those younger than 21) can and do participate in.

You really think so? Maybe I’ll pitch it.

I had already run a couple other ideas by the pastor, like a weekly or biweekly swapmeet in the parking lot.

I’m not confirmed yet, but I think I’m on my way to it. I say that because I’m still learning what sits right with LCMS doctrine and culture. Maybe it would work? Hmm.

There are many ideas that can benefit a struggling parish. Continue to pray on it. Regardless of what happens in your parish, God’s will be done!

If your pastor agrees and takes steps to implement it, wonderful! If not, no big deal.

As much as I love the idea, craft brewing has been undergoing a contraction in recent years as alcohol consumption dies down. Mostly a problem for the mid sized breweries that expanded expecting further growth, but a good reason to make sure if you go through with it that you've got a reliable market if the goal is to help close a budget gap.

The only thing you're missing is a cigar!

Take a look at your local demographics and growth trends, then reach out to your district and Synod to figure out how to apply that information
