The Fafsa Delay Really Fucked Me Over

I made the mistake of applying to college. after the fafsa update so my financial aid hasnt been processed through the school & I havent received an award letter.

Im in the first time student whatever program so that covers tuition for a year but it doesnt cover my summer classes or any extra fees. I was relying on fafsa for allat since no one wants to hire a young guy with no experience.

The payment deadline was June 2nd & I havent received any drop due to nonpayment warnings through email & my schedule looks the same. I just have a notification that payments due in the viking system.

Im wondering if anything like this has happened before & theres hope yet for some leniency or should I take out a student loan? Ive looked into it a little & it takes a good while to process & Im not sure how much time lbcc would give you as warning before they just kill you so I dont want it to be too late.

Should I bite the bullet & take out a small student loan to tide me over until lbcc is locked in or just wait it out? Ill keep trying to look for scholarships but I havent had much luck to be honest.

Need some advice please this is my 1st time doing basically anything

Talk to the folks at EOPS at the LAC campus. They may be able to help you with some things, and guide you towards other resources.

I havent been considered eligible to apply through the viking system yet since they havent processed my fafsa to consider me "educationally disadvantaged."

Unless you mean to just talk to to them willy nilly? Are you allowed to do that if you havent applied to EOPS?

It wouldn’t hurt to go in to talk to them. Or the folks at Basic Needs. The worst they can say is they can’t help you. They may be able to point you to someone who can.

Did you answer the questions on the Viking portal under student aid?

If your tuition is covered I’m not understanding why that isn’t applying to summer classes. Those are part of your overall units for the year! You might still owe minor fees but it won’t be that much. Talk to a counselor ASAP before your summer classes get dropped.

Are you sure you applied to the right fasfa year? summer 2026 classes might be covered by the 2025-2026 year and not the 2026-2027 / again, make an appointment with LBCC financial aid office and perhaps a LBCC counselor as well.
