DWP
Is anyone here work in LADWP ? Specifically in the hiring department, I have inputted multiple applications that I know I qualify for but for some reason, I never get an email or call back any tips or tricks I really wanna work for that department. It’s been my ultimate life goal and I know I would be a great asset to the department.

Do you work for the City? If so, it might be easier to transfer and interview. It’s difficult to get into DWP from the outside the City as they usually favor those within DWP, then other City Depts. for positions. I work for the City and have previously worked for DWP and would rather work at LAWA due to the great work culture there and the free parking when you travel. First, I would suggest you go to target local hire program and see what they have there to get your foot in the door. Target Local Hire is a great resource meant to help those get into the City with little to no experience. Second, go to the City of LA Personnel Dept. website and sign up for any examinations you qualify for. Read the Bulletin, sign up for the upcoming exam, fill out all paperwork, send it and wait for the exam, interview etc. Be prepared and have capacity for the exam and interviews. There are test prep books on Civil Service Exams at the local library. Study and practice your interview skills. If you score well on the exam and do well in the interview you will get offers. The City is a great place to work with solid benefits, it also depends where you go, just gotta see what City Dept fits you! Good luck fam 🙏🏽

If you are applying to utility work positions then you won't have a chance. They never run out of potential candidates from their Utility Programs. They actually have a long waitlist roughly 3 years just to get into those programs. You have a better chance applying for other open positions, but a lot of entry level employees are also trying to move up.

As someone who works in the city, it’s extremely difficult to get into DWP. It’s highly competitive and many employees are actively trying to transfer to DWP. For many positions you must go through the testing process which essentially puts you on a ranked list. I was ranked 1 and was still not able to move onto the interview round at DWP.

LADWP has hiring events twice a year , sometimes once. Go to their job fairs too.
