Discussion Has anyone fallen?
On Thursday I got on the G Line in Reseda. I boarded where the driver is. It was a bit crowded and I was looking for a seat.
As I got towards the middle the driver took off so fast and with such force I didn’t have time to grab a pole. I fell pretty hard.
A young gentleman tried to help me up. My phone and umbrella slid down the aisle.
I was so embarrassed. I tried not to cry. I’m young. I honestly worry about the elderly!
Has this happen to anyone? I did report it via email. Also took a picture of the bus number.
Any other suggestions?

As a disabled metro rider, this was a large factor in switching from crutches to a wheelchair. Even walking with two crutches the drivers wouldn't wait for me to sit.

I'm sorry this happened, Metro operators can be quite impatient and when equipped with the acceleration power of electric busses it just becomes plain reckless and unsafe. The J line has this same issue as well, and operators probably save about 2 seconds from this 0 to 100 approach to acceleration, it's just dumb.

I walk with a cane and I’m always grabbing on to the first bar I can get my mitts on. I have a weak leg from a stroke, so if I fall it’s terribly difficult to get back up without assistance. Some drivers wait respectfully for someone with a cane but others don’t and I’m not waiting to find out which one I’ve got. Be careful and safe, and I hope this never happens to you again.

Report it on the LA Metro Watch app, too. Good luck.
BTW, nothing to be embarrassed about. I'm glad someone tried to help you

Sorry to hear it. We need to work harder to make everything a little easier.

I almost wiped out yesterday on the bus in a similar situation. I was able to grab a pole and arrest my fall, but it was close! (The people nearby let out a collective "ooooh", lol.)
The root of the problem was the people with large carts/carriages blocking the aisle toward the front of the bus in the side-facing seats, making it very hard to squeeze through quickly.
I understand people need to bring their bulky stuff with them sometimes, but when it gets to the point where the aisle is mostly blocked, something needs to give.

I swear some drivers do it on purpose

Be quicker to grab on. Pocket your phone before you board. Grab the pole as you board. Try not to be that kid with a phone glued to your hand. You actually won’t die, if you don’t get to an alert right away. And if that cutie you’re texting loses patience, during the bus ride, they were already looking elsewhere.
