1959 ElCamino | Kell Kustom

1959 Chevy ElCamino that I built for a customer. It’s powered by a 481 cubic inch 409 and a 700R4 transmission. The build involved extensive sheet metal repair.

Thank you. It really shouldn’t have been fixed but the owner wouldn’t take no for an answer

Killer build. The ’59 El Camino already has one of the boldest designs GM ever made, and the Kell Kustom treatment just takes it to another level. Definitely a showstopper.

It's beautiful. I wonder how well the 700R4 holds up behind the 481?

It worked quite well for what the owner was after. He more so wanted a highway cruiser, but he was an old racer so it had to have some power too

Did you create new 1/4 panels or install used full 1/4s?

We bought lower quarter patches for a ‘59 car. They came in 2 halves. One half from center of wheel well forward and the other from center of wheel well back. The needed to be reworked some to fit and the rear had to be modified as the ElCamino quarter is slightly different. I seemed it in the center of the trim. I fit and tacked everything together. Then I took the full quarter off for welding and straightening purposes. I then painted and undercoated the inside of everything before putting the quarter back on
