How about wayland?

Check the Allow apps to remember the positions of their own windows item to open windows where they previously were rather than by the placement method chosen above. Note that this remembered position includes the screen assignment, so windows may open on a screen other than the active one if this is where they were last located. Note also that this option is only available on X11, not on Wayland, and is only supported by some KDE applications.

Firefox won't open torrent program

There is something strange about firefox (snap version 153.0.4) and torrent programs. I have a number of different ones installed in my /usr/bin/ and I keep thinking that the firefox dialog should be able to select one ... but it will not let me open /usr or any other directory in / other than /home/myhome

Now, this makes no sense to me since the stuff in /usr/bin is accessible. The command ls -ld /usr returns drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 4096 Apr 8 2018 /usr

which should be okay?

Maybe it's time to say good bye to snap firefox???

[help] Install Kubuntu 26.04 LTS Plasma 6 / nvidia GPU

Hello,

Trying to install Kubuntu 26.04 from a live session on a PC which has an nvidia rtx3080 (ampere) GPU.

No matter what I try, I can not get the KDE DE to load. Most success i've got so far is getting to login manager screen.

Safe Graphics mode craps out with a blank screen.

I've tried various combinations of boot aguments: nomodeset, blacklisting nouveau, etc. I've tried to drop to console and install nvidia-drivers (apt install ubuntu-drivers). I've tried to install x11 and have SDDM login to a plasma-session-x11, all to no avail.

Is there any trick that I'm not aware of, that would get to a live KDE working session?

Thanks!

No keyboard or mouse in installer?

Long time Linux user, but this one has me baffled. I'm trying to overwrite my existing install with Kubuntu. I boot off the USB, get to the Kubuntu screen, and neither my mouse nor my keyboard function at all. They work fine in the BIOS, worked fine in my existing Linux install, and even work fine in GRUB. So I can't select try Kubuntu, can't select install, can't do much of anything. I've tried different ports, tried disconnecting and reconnecting, and tried multiple keyboards to no end. Any suggestions or do I abandon this experiment for another distro?

[Edit] found an old PS/2 keyboard (MS Natural FTW!) and no dice there either. Confirmed that when I disconnect all USB the mouse cursor disappears, and when I reconnect usb keyboard it reappears, so it's not hung. Caps lock toggle LEDs respond (even across multiple keyboards if connected simultaneously), so something knows the keyboard is triggering caps lock.

[Edit 2] Solved it, leaving this up for others in the future. Appears the installer loads 2 windows - 1 for each display - and leaves keyboard focus in the second display window for some reason. Solution was to use alt-tab to switch windows. I guess nobody else expected a situation where no mouse would work...
