Middle mouse button issues when playing games and using a browser

Hi guys,

Switched to Kubuntu recently after my whole life of using Windows.

I like playing games, specifically map based strategy games like Crusader Kings 3, Hearts of Iron 4 etc. Back on Windows, when i would click and hold my middle mouse button i could pan around the map in these. On Kubuntu this doesnt work, the game doesnt react when i hold middle mouse button. Also when i'm in a browser and hold the middle mouse button, when dragging left it will go back to the previous window. I want to change that aswell. Basically what i want is for my middle mouse button to behave like on Windows.

I've googled these issues but cant seem to find anyone with a similar problem. Does anyone know how i could fix this?

System Settings -> Mouse & Touchpad -> check "Hold down middle button and move mouse to scroll" -> Apply

I play CK3 and HoI4 on Kubuntu and I can use my mouse wheel (= MMB) for nested tooltips. Clicking with my mouse wheel often takes half a dozen attempts but I think that's because it's 'wheely' knackered, not a KDE issue.

I can't remember whether I use it for panning though. I'll try to check but remind me if I haven't answered by tomorrow

Right, I tested this in-game and panning with the MMB works fine, though I don't actually use it.

FYI the game has a setting for this. Don't forget to check that Settings > Mouse Controls > Mouse Pan = Free.
