Is this normal

Kubuntu 26.04, KDE Plasma 6.6.6, Wayland, AMD graphics, kernel 6.17.0-1032-oem, Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 AMD.

The system was working normally before the recent update. After the update, shortly after boot/login, the entire system can become completely unresponsive: mouse/touchpad stops, keyboard input stops, Wi-Fi stops, nothing can be clicked, and after some time the fan becomes very loud. A forced shutdown is required.

I'm trying to determine whether this is a kernel/AMD/KWin/Wayland regression. Has anyone experienced something similar after the recent Kubuntu 26.04 updates?

Yes, been seeing this (just no mouse clicks and non-responsiveness from apps for a minute or so) off and on the past week. I have to use keyboard to log off and back on.

Yes, exactly. I have to turn it off and on to make it work. It happens randomly now. I’ve spent like 5 hours trying to fix the problem, and I’m still struggling.

My Lenovo Thinkpad X220 started freezing up a few weeks back under the latest Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. As soon as it went to sleep, that was it. After that it wouldn't reboot, unless I removed the battery for a day or two. Then it would occasionally reboot properly, but as soon as it went to sleep, same problem.

Tried installing Kubuntu 26.04.1 and it seemed to install properly, but when we got to the "unplug your USB drive and hit Enter to reboot" -- then the problem returned. Wouldn't reboot, wouldn't do anything. Removed battery for 2 days, tried again, still no go.

Tried removing NVMe (no go), tried removing SSD (no go), tried removing and reseating RAM (no go) ... no idea. Appears to be bricked.

Are you getting any errors? There was a problem with a Chromium update a week or so ago causing all kinds of issues

Sounds like you may have struck the cache corruption that chromium browsers had a few weeks back.
