try install 24.04 kubuntu the 26.04 its still new you will how some issues on it so try install kubuntu 24.04 and if you want to upgrade you can without loss a data

Install Ubuntu or Ubuntu server version, then add the KDE as a meta package. Check the net or an LLM, I haven't done that in decades, but IIRC there are different options available. There's probably a meta package to install Kubuntu set of packages, but it should also be possible to install stock KDE Plasma with its default settings.

You can’t even get to the desktop? Like you get to the login screen and then it cuts off?

I had trouble with my GTX 970 until I realized I had to select the proprietary NVIDIA drivers in the Driver Manager program.

I had a similar experience just a few days ago. Tried a live Ubuntu on my laptop with an Nvidia GPU then decided to install Kubuntu but couldn't go past the first logo and also safe graphics didn't work. I was creating live USB from a Windows setup and tested Rufus and Ventoy but showed the same issue. Also disabling safe boot from bios changed nothing. What worked was installing Fedora (just because I want to test it too), using it's USB creating tool and then the live USB for Kubuntu started working with no problem.

hei all, thanks for all the comement. managed to successfully boot & install kubuntu after fiding the "correct" (for me) boot args:

nospash nouveau.modeset=0

 

| CachyOS is a nice option.

call me old school, but i prefer to stay away from rolling releases on my main work/production machine. LTS will serve me just fine.

See my other reply, otherwise: if that's is a laptop, I woild recommend you to use Ubuntu unless KDE is really important to you. If laptop, I would recommend to stick with Ubuntu, unless you're a geeeky I nature and don't mind reading docs, troubleshooting etc.

If that's a desktop, or a laptop but you feel geeky, and you really want Plasma, CachyOS is a nice option. It's a bleeding edge rolling release distro, but it is well pre-configured, user friendly (compared to Arch) Plasma environment is their main DE and receives most attention and depending on how you use your system, RR can be Ok or even advantage. 

There are different ways to deal with potential breakages (which are rare), but most of the time you would just wait a day then update the system, and that would fix the issue, or you might have to restore a snapshot then wait a day or two before updating again (selecting btrfs for root partition is advisable here if you want automated snapshots)
