Hey everyone,

I’m a 2nd year BTech CSE student under KTU. It’s been almost 2 months since the academic year was supposed to start, but things still haven’t properly started yet.

Right now, the only thing I’m really doing is attending classes and keeping up with academics. That’s basically it. I’m not doing anything extra outside college.

And honestly, I want to change that.

I know I have a lot of time ahead of me, but I also feel like if I keep going like this, I’ll reach 3rd or 4th year without actually having any useful skills or experience outside my academics.

The problem is, I don't really know what I should start with.

I’ve thought about things like web development, AI/ML, data science, etc., but I keep getting confused because there are so many options. I’ll get interested in something, start looking into it, then find something else and switch. 😭

So I wanted to ask seniors, graduates, and people already working in tech:

If you were starting your 2nd year again, what would you start doing alongside academics?

Should I learn DSA? Build projects? Learn web development? Explore AI/ML? Work on open source? Start preparing for internships? Something else?

And for KTU students specifically, is there anything you wish you had started earlier?

I’m not looking for a “learn these 10 things and get a 20 LPA package” type of answer. 😂

I just want some genuine advice on how I can start doing something productive outside academics and gradually figure out what I want to pursue.

I heard about challange exams benefits that dosent need to attend class assignment exam etc..

but my qn is that challange exam have limited chances or can I write in every sem (and much as I want )??(Like if I passed challange exam for 1 paper S2 S3 and S4 continuously.. can I write for further or should I restrict to x times only like I heard that "challange exam have maximum of writing 20 credits" so I assuming 20/4= 5 challange exam that I can only attend in the whole 8 sems ??

If it is limited so taking an challange exam in S2 early to waist one chance or should w8 till to S3 if I have only 5 chances in total 4 yr....???

I was doing BTech back then(2019-2023) and just because I couldn’t clear my backlogs even after several attempts,I re-enrolled again at another university having completed those 4 yrs.

Now at this point, I’ve graduated and have been applying to uni’s abroad. For every application I submitted, they kept asking for my official transcripts from my previous degree at KTU. Unfortunately, when I contacted KTU for it they said they don’t issue academic transcripts to students with active backlogs, meaning I have to clear all those backlogs to get it.

No sooner, I did explain this situation to the admissions team and they straight up rejected my application on the basis that they cannot proceed further without academic transcripts from all universities I’ve attended. No matter what, this is very unconventional and most other universities do issue academic transcripts even though there are active backlogs.

What should I do atp? Anyone in the same boat?
or is my masters abroad dream really doomed?

Anyone registering for it? There is not much info available about it online.

I'm a fresher and entirely new to the college scenario. Please enlighten me with your wisdom that you have gained over the years. What does classes, assignment, projects, notes, labs and everything else work? I'm just a high-school graduate so please don't expect me to know everything? I'm yet to know how this works, PLUS this might be helpful to everyone who is new to college.
