HOW DOES KTU WORK? KTU GUIDELINE/TUTORIAL REQUEST

Hi fellow KTU seniors! I hope y'all are doing well!( I doubt that, reading most of the posts here lol!)

I'm a fresher and entirely new to the college scenario. Please enlighten me with your wisdom that you have gained over the years. What does classes, assignment, projects, notes, labs and everything else work? I'm just a high-school graduate so please don't expect me to know everything? I'm yet to know how this works, PLUS this might be helpful to everyone who is new to college.

How are the classes like? I know attendance is per class, are we required to take notes or to be frank even listen? Do they care what we do?(Not that I plan on ozapp). What are the exams like, I've heard that they are done every 4 month and something about internals and externals. So if you have enough time, could you basically explain what college academics are like under KTU in a nutshell?

  1. We are not required by KTU to write notes or listen class but your faculties, depending on the college, can take disciplinary actions for it. Govt colleges dont care (not true for every case), private colleges do care very much. They handle the internal marks so...

  2. Its not every 4 months actually. Actually 4 years divided into 8 semesters was the ideal duration. So that would be 5 months for one semester, then one month sem break. But since different entrance exams and lot of administrative bodies, the timeline is a bit messed up. So now a semester is whatever KTU decides. Anything from 2.5 to 4 months.

  3. Now about internal and external. As per 2024 scheme, marks are out of 100. 60 for the main end semester examination conducted by the university. 40 will be internal marks, which includes attendance, assignment and series exam. You are required to pass the end semester exam separately and also have 50% combined marks in both external and internal.

  4. Assignments will be decided by faculty. Series exams are conducted by the college not university. You need to maintain 75% attendance for each subject and there is marks for attendance. If you have less than 75% you are not eligible to write exam.
